WC: Team Usa 2025

My guess is that Swayman and Daccord have been asked first. A guess based purely on messages from insiders.
If I'm Daccord, I say no. Daccord has a (good?) chance of playing for Canada at the Olympics, while he has NO chance of playing for the U.S.. If I am Daccord, I get my Canadian passport and I go to the World Championships - it might lead to an Olympic Gold Medal in 12 months.

I think that is generally true, but I understand the thought with Goalies, just not enough games for three guys to get in a rhythm.

I mean I get it, but making this up, if Swayman doesn't want to come if he has to compete with Wolf for games then good riddance. Our program is too deferential. We need guys who embrace competition with the confidence to come out on top.

I feel like in an ideal world you bring two guys that you would be comfortable being your starter depending on a number of factors...and then your 3rd can be a young goalie for the future. It isn't a short tournament, if Swayman and Wolf are your top 2 they can both get games and then let their play determine the rest.

If you wait too long, suddenly those who didn't get a call are no longer available, assuming there won't be an invite. That's why I think if we don't get a clear yes, we move on to the next guy. Of course, it's understandable with some players that they want to give it time if getting a player depends on it, but Swayman after this season or Daccord are not in this group.

Me just sitting here smiling hearing the words "excited to play" from some top players for once....

Especially with what happened to Lyon last year. If we had him the whole time USA had an even better chance to win. Both Wolf and Swayman are young so this is kind of unique. Not veterans. Didn't play a massive amount of games like Helle or Otter typically do. Swayman had a down year and "should" want to end on a better note. Wolf shouldn't even want to stop playing with how good he has been lol. There is room for both here. It shouldn't even come down to promising the net to 1 of them for either of them to show up, and I don't think that's the case honestly.

Plus both in my eyes are competing for the same spot #3 goalie at the Olympics.

Also wouldn't shock me if Perunovich gets asked. I can't explain why he hasn't put it all together but at times he can look insanely good and other times invisible. Still the kind of dman we would want here if most of the vets say no..he can move out there..

I don't want to go there yet. Not this year. I am still unusually optimistic.

All names either said excited to play or thinking it over:
Dustin Wolf
Logan Cooley
K'Andre Miller
Brady Skjei
Nick Schmaltz

Dylan Larkin - called everyone out

If we get most of these guys to play, it is possible this could be one of the deepest and most skilled teams sent. Young but insanely skilled.

Garland - Thompson - Keller
Gauthier - Larkin - Cooley
Brink - Beniers - Smith
Coronato - Nazar - McGroarty
Cates/Poehling

Miller - Vlasic
Skjei - LaCombe
Thrun - Kesselring
Helleson

Wolf
Swayman/Lyon/Daccord
Knight

I still don't know who originally posted that Bobby Brink will be playing. I didn't find anything on profiles of writers who cover the Flyers. Brink also did not comment on this in his exit interview.

These high profile guys aren't going to leave their families and give up time in their offseason to travel to another country in a tournament that doesn't mean much to them to go be a backup. Gotta be realistic. You're realistically looking at a clear starter and then backup-worthy backups.

It's this "can't be bothered because reasons" mentality that produces also-ran WC USA teams. If we've "gotta be realistic" then nothing will change.
