WC: Team Usa 2025

I hope the goalies are clamoring for the opportunity. We have a ton of options but only Helle and Otter are safe. With Swayman's year and Demko's injuries, a spot is wide open for someone to step up and claim a spot.
It's nice to have options in net. Which includes guys like Gibson, Daccord, Lyon, etc. Though after the scary incident last year, doubt Lyon would come again. I would take any of these 3 in a heartbeat to be here considering what we normally get in net...Hoping for either Swayman or Wolf, one of those 3 above and Knight as the young guy (dude is still only like 23 lol)

I am curious if Daccord would answer the call or not with Canada sniffing around as well. Get himself locked in to a country. Or if he will just keep his options open for a bit longer.

There has been talk that he is going to Olympics with Switzerland but who knows. Gibson is injured again. Swayman, Wolf, Knight would be nice trio.

He was asked by US Hockey last year to play and declined...didn't hear anything about Canada at all as an option. Bonney would likely know better but have only heard USA Hockey and his name.

Kind of came up a lot around the 4 Nations that Canada sniffed around as he does have eligibility to play for Canada...but he didn't have a Canadian passport. Sounds like he could do USA,Canada or the Swiss if he really wanted too.

Daccord has been linked with both Switzerland (where his mother is from) and Canada (where his father is from). There was considerable smoke of him being named to Canada's Four Nations team, but that fell through. Frankly, we don't need him.

Thought you had to play 2 years in a country or something like that to qualify for IIHF eligibility.

He's a bit of a backdoor Canadian citizen/IIHF eligible with his father being Canadian (citizenship) and having spent two seasons with Ottawa/their AHL team (but I guess USA has "stolen" enough players over the years that it's fair game so to speak). He was Prep School -> USHL -> NCAA coming up through the ranks. Not sure why he'd be allowed to play for the Swiss.

I haven't heard anything beyond what folks here have already shared. But I hope we don't invite him again if he'd rather represent another country. We're not desperate for goalies.

Yeah I was asked to participate in a few of these midnight raids where we crossed the border with potato sacks & brought back sons of Canadian hockey players to claim as our own. I remember Phil McRae being one and Dominick Turgeon was another...it was kind of like Sicario but in Canada and with potato sacks....good times...good times...

Actually USA have a bigger an bigger depth over the years , cant wait to see them win the worlds , said from Denmark . a cup win would change the culture in players accepting invitation in future , not only in Olympics " years "

That seems like quite a crap rule. You should be able to play for either of the nations your parents are from.

I don't know. In a way, you should be able to play if you have citizenship, but in soccer, for example, this has gotten completely out of hand with how countries are trying to recruit players from other countries instead of developing their own players.

Because his mum is from Switzerland.

In football (soccer) it is traditionally a grandparent rule but obviously certain countries look to recuirt players through residency. I'd say it can get out of hand in hockey too, look at the China roster for the Bejing Winter Olympics.
