Furrer was a 2003 6th round pick by the Rangers. I think he looked good last season, especially considering that he missed the entire 2004 season. He might get more ice time next season, and I think he will sooner or later take play in North America.

Also I don't like the idea that immigrated players should be able to play for their new country. See the German and Austrian roster... :shakehead

I wondered how Goran Bezina was playing for the Swiss, he is from Croatia.

Thanks!

I'm not sure wether he's born in Croatia or Switzerland (differents sources list him with differents birth places). His parent are from Croatia and moved just before or after his birth, so he grew up in Switzerland and is a swiss trained hockey player.

Patrick Oppliger and Marc Reichert go out of the selection. Good news for the younger players like Baertschi ( bad luck with a lot of injury), Romy ( most efficient that a Wick) or Lemm (a young sniper).

-The Swiss team have a lack of snipers. The offensive is poor, and the future isn't very good at this position. Von arx miss a lot at the offense. But Christian Dubé will play for Switzerland the next year.
- The defensive is experienced and quiet good, thanks to Streit, Seger, Vauclair and Keller. The team will play without Steinegger.
-But in the goaltender position, the Swiss team is strong. Gerber will be the number one, i'm ok with you. Abby play also good. And with Bührer and Hiller (too tired for play), this subject is very ok for Swiss people.

I hope that Plüss will play like the last years. Like one of best player of the world championship. He's great with his defensive job.

ps: sorry for my english, i have been learning this language for 6 months. ;)

How come Wick wasn't on the team? He's not in the WHL playoffs and was really good in the WHL. I would find it hard to believe that the Swiss forwards are that deep that he is not included. Anyone know ?? :dunno:

A guy like Tim Ramholt has played a great season -2003-2004 - with Cape-Breton Screaming Eagles in QMJHL. But the last year, i came back for playing with Zurich (the first league in Switzerland). And at the end of the season, i was the 7th defenseman. I think that a level between the first league in Swizerland and the league Junior in Canada ( WHL or QMJHL) is too deep for give a place or a chance for Wick. It's too early for him, but in a couple of years, i think it's possible.... I'm sure.

Wick is a talented player, but too young or not - yet - experienced for playing with the Swizerland. Just my mind...

Year, the Swiss league is not as bad as many think. The difference between WCH and Swiss League is too big to make a comparison betwenn these leagues. Wick need 1-2 years to be ready for the Swiss roster.

Ok thanks. I wasn't trying to knock the swiss league or anything. I don't get to watch it. It was mainly a question and just hopin that they would bring him along as a 4th liner or something. Hope they do well though.

I can see why you would think so, but many underestimate the difference between junior and pro hockey. Just take a look at Tim Ramholt's and Roman Wick's stats :

That's how big the difference is. Don't forget that for one Rick Nash who can jump directly from major junior to the NHL, there are 50 players like Roman Wick, drafted way later and needing playing time at every level before reaching their potential.

Ralph Kruger removes Kobach and Dubois from the team for defense. It isn't surprised.

But the cut in the offensive: Marcel Jenni. It's a best scorer in playoff from the Sweden vice champion Farjestad. Jenni hasn't recovered complety from a hit in the last final vs Frölunda. Bad luck for the swiss team.

Finally, it's a chance for younger Kevin Romy and Patrick Baertschi to taking a lot of experience with this wolrd championship.

It probably beats the DEL and SM-Liiga skill wise, but ranking it ahead of the SEL and czech league might be streching things a little.

I'd say it's above SEL in skill considering how former swedish scores do in the league... hard to compare with the czech league perhaps though.

The final roster:

Goalies (3): David Aebischer (Lugano / Colorado/NHL), Marco Bührer (Bern), Martin Gerber (Färjestad/SWE / Carolina/NHL)

Defense (8): Goran Bezina (Servette), Severin Blindenbacher (Kloten), Beat Forster (Davos), Cyrill Geyer (Rapperswil), Olivier Keller (Lugano), Mathias Seger (ZSC Lions), Mark Streit (ZSC Lions), Julien Vauclair (Lugano)

Offense(14): Andres Ambühl (Davos), Patrik Bärtschi (Kloten), Flavien Conne (Lugano), Patric Della Rossa (Zug), Paul Di Pietro (Lugano/Chur), Patrick Fischer (Zug), Sandy Jeannin (Lugano), Romano Lemm (Kloten), Thierry Paterlini (ZSC Lions), Martin Plüss (Frölunda/SWE), Kevin Romy (Servette), Ivo Rüthemann (Bern), Adrian Wichser (Lugano), Thomas Ziegler (Bern) .

The swiss team seems ready for this championship, In the last 4 games (2 vs Finland and 2 vs Belarus), they have 3 wins and 1 lost. Their defense's received only 5 goals in this 4 games...
