Team Switzerland have named a preliminary roster of 30 players, including David Aebischer and the team captain Mark Streit of course. But no players from Sweden at this date, I guess Martin Gerber, Martin Plüss and Marcel Jenni will join the team at a later stage.

Team Switzerland will play two games versus Finland later this week, their schedule building up to the World Championships look like this.

Goalies:
David Aebischer
Marco Bührer
Jonas Hiller

Defensemen:
Goran Bezina
Severin Blindenbacher
Félicien Du Bois
Beat Forster
Cyrill Geyer
Timo Helbling
Olivier Keller
Reto Kobach
Mathias Seger
Mark Streit
Julien Vauclair

Forwards:
Andres Ambühl
Patrik Bärtschi
Flavien Conne
Patric Della Rossa
Paul Di Pietro
Patrick Fischer
Sandy Jeannin
Romano Lemm
Patrick Oppliger
Thierry Paterlini
Marc Reichert
Kevin Romy
Ivo Rüthemann
Adrian Wichser
Thomas Ziegler
Andreas Camenzind

In case anyone wondered, that's Paul Di Pietro, ex-hab Stanley Cup hero and ex Leafs flame out! ;)

don't think Kevin Romy will play at the WC, neither Paul di Pietro, he's too old.
Also I don't like the idea that immigrated players should be able to play for their new country. See the German and Austrian roster... :shakehead

I think DiPietro will make it. He can handle physical play and has more skills than Camenzind, Oppliger, Paterlini and Ziegler (especially considering that the last two had subpar season). Romy also has a chance as Bärtschi doesn't look ready after missign half the season, Ambühl was a victim of Davos' offensive depth and Wichser's play has been poor lately. I think Ambühl and Wichser will make it considering they usually play well in international hockey, but it might be a closer call that it looks. Regarding the defense, I think Kout and Hirschi deserve a chance, they are better than Du Bois and Geyer. Rüeger deserve a chance as well after playing his best season ever, but the goalie depth is impressive and with Gerber to be added later, he wouldn't have played anyway.

romy didn't impress my at all at the tourney for qualification to the Olympics in Torino.
Don't get me wrong, he's a great player with hell lot of potential, but maybe next year.

Well, I didn't see the tournament. I only saw him in a game against Davos, Rapperswiel and some other Swiss team this season. He's very talented. He needs to get stronger though to make it to NHL

I think Romy should go to the wc. I am very impressed of his performance in the season 2004/2005. And he is definitively better than Wick, Camenzind or Paterlini(I know he isn't a Center). But like aforc3 said is it for me unbelievible that Riesen and von Arx are not in the roster. Also is Christen for me a top 12 forward. But year I know the reason and Krüger is our Coach so it will be every year the same thing with von Arx and Riesen.... :shakehead

Von Arx has only himself to blame, he could have calmed things down with Krüger the way Jenni did, but he choosed the remain selfish. Riesen decided to follow Von Arx, as well as Rizzi (whom I'll take above Ziegler, Camenzind and Oppliger as a defensive center), so Krüger shouldn't be the only one to be blamed.

As a great player von Arx is, as an axxhole he is. This was 3 years ago, this is like kindergarden, von Arx is really stupid! Riesen is not good enough for the worlds unless this dude learns that he's also having a body. Hey, this is not chess, this is hockey!!!

Are Jenni and Gerber going to join the team?
They'll join the team today, as well as Plüss.

And why no Rolf Schrepfer
Because he sucks !

helicecopter said:
He's very slow and can't deal with physical play, which make him useless in international hockey, despite all his skills. Beside, he's not getting younger.

and Guggisberg?
He's not ready yet, he still has many things to learn before he can face the best.

Good! Who do you think will be the starting goalie?

Well, in the three games i saw against Davos he was Bern's best Swiss player. He didn't suck at all.

When trying hard he is still more dangerous than most of the forwards on that list.

Ok, Guggi is not ready yet..but all the others called are?And which are the things you think he should improve the most?

Starting Goalie is probably Gerber :dunno: , but i hope it will be Aebischer

Schrepfer and Rötheli you can forget those players. Guggisberg why not but not at a Moment. But i miss in this roster Christen. In 1 or 2 years I hope Guggisberg, Sprunger  , Wick or T. Ramholt will be in the team.

I think Gerber is a lock. I'd like to see Bührer as the number two goalie, but I think Aebischer will get the back up job a start one or two game, even if he had a poor season and doesn't fit well in the national team.

Schrepfer has no skills and an habit of taking dumb penalties. Della Rossa, Ziegler, Camenzind or Oppliger are all better hard working forwards.

Rötheli has skills, but as a said in my previous post, he's slow and can't deal with physical play. He may help Switzerland scores one more goal against a weak team, but let's face it, that team won't beat a top nation by outplaying them, their only chance is to outwork them and Rötheli won't help in that regard. Same goes for key games against Germany, Austria or Latvia, which are the kind of game this team is built for.

The only player I would question being ready is Romy, but after having a great season, I think he deserves to be called. Beside, he's a more complete player than Guggisberg, who is pretty much an "all skill" player who has trouble with physical play, the kind of guy who needs to be a top 6 forward to help the team. As for things he needs to improve, leg strength to be harder to knock off the puck, and puck control in traffic.

Ok, i am satisfied with your reasons.. but i still think you are a bit too harsh on Shrepfer ;)

btw, what's your opinion on Furrer? he looked good for a 85' born and i was wondering if he had been drafted in one of the last couple of NHL drafts...?
