Are there any players from any of the other former Soviet Republics that would have made the Russian Olympic team?

Nevermind. I get the question now.
Yea I am sure theres a few role players here or there.
If you look at past Soviet lineups, almost all of the players were from Russia. There were a handful of players over the years (e.g., Ozolinsh, Balderis, Khristich) who came from other Soviet Republics, but precious few.
Depends how we define from other republics. The USSR team had quite a few Ukrainian born players. Of course most of those players had Russian written in their passports.
Off the top, the only Ukrainians I can think of are Khristich, Shiryayev, Zhitnik and Zherdev. I'm sure I'm missing someone, but those are the only Ukrainians that I can think of that played for Soviet or Russian national teams.
Peter Bondra was born in Ukraine and didn't receive Slovak citizenship until he was 26.
Must have been when he was 25 since he already played for Slovakia in August/September 1993 (he was born February 1968). Anyway, despite his Soviet passport Peter Bondra was not actually Ukrainian, neither ethnically nor as a hockey player.
I think you missed my point.
If the point was that "The USSR team had quite a few Ukrainian born players", then I don't see how Bondra has any relevance. If that is the case then I have not only missed it in the first place, but I am still not seeing it.
Tverdovsky, Vishnevsky, Yuldashev, Shundrov, Narimanov even Peter Bondra was born in Ukraine and didn't receive Slovak citizenship until he was 26.
Forgot about Tverdovsky and Vishnevsky. I believe that Ravil Yuldachev was born in Russia and migrated to Kiev to play for Sokil. I believe that Nikolai Narimanov was also born in Russia, as I recall (Sverdlovsk, the same city that produced Datsyuk, Yashin, Malakhov and Byakin). and he also moved to Kiev to play for Sokil. I don't remember either of those or Shundrov ever playing for the national team. If they did, I assume that it was in lesser tournaments just to see how they played with that level of competition. At any rate, you would have to say that Ukraine and other Republics contributed very few players to the national team.

Russia obviously was the main provider of the national team, but I'm sure if I actually did some research I could find some other players. Still the Ukrainian contribution of Zherdev, Tverdovsky and others aren't chopped liver.
Grabovsky is the only one that has a chance...may be Bogosian![]()
Except Bogosian's grandfather fled in 1923 from western Armenia, which is now Turkey.
