On top of that, if people are split, I'd argue Stepan in the 2014 playoffs was one of the most valuable players on the roster, and even besides his G7 OT winner in 2015, he was a very very good player for the team that run as well.

Stepan had his jaw knocked up to the top of his head like Daffy Duck's bill getting shot by Elmer Fudd and still came back to play that series.

Voted Step.

Stepan had 7 seasons that included a trip to SCF and ECFs during his tenure (and as 1C on those teams). Zibanejad had one breakthrough season on a rebuilding team and one where he missed big chunks of time with injuries and the team missing playoffs altogether.

Stepan over Zibanejad easily even if Zibanejad is a better player.

Zibanejad is a legitimate top line center. Stepan is a serviceable top line center. Thus Zibanejad is the better center of the decade.

Let's say that team drafted a player who played just a handful of games on the team while still a prospect and then traded and later became a superstar elsewhere. For example, imagine if Duclair became a bona fide superstar winger playing on a first line in Arizona with Domi. Would you consider listing him ahead of Kreider, Zuke or Nash in this situation?

I think the overall volume of contribution to the team's success during tenure is more important than just comparing overall talent levels. IMHO

At the end of the decade, Stepan will have had:

5 seasons of 51-57 points
1 season of 44 points in 48 games (extrapolates to 75 points)
1 season of 45 points in 82 games as a rookie straight from college

1 season of 37 points in 56 games (extrapolates to 54 points)
1 season of 47 points
1 season of 74 points
Whatever he does this year

For me, it's Stepan any way you slice it.

I guess if you're voting by peak, it comes down to 2014-15 Stepan vs 2018-19 Zibanejad. I'd also factor in that Zibanejad had a significantly worse team around him last year than Step had in 2014-15. We all got a glimpse early this year of what Zib can do with elite talent. It's close, but I lean Zib.

This is a weird argument, because we're not voting for Zib based on what he did with another team, we're voting based on what he did with the Rangers. In your hypothetical situation, if Duclair had a 30 goal, 74 point season for the Rangers, I'm probably putting him ahead of Kreider and Zuke.

Exacty, and in your opinion what Zibanejad did for the Rangers is more than what Stepan did during his tenure?

Not just one season but for the whole decade. Maybe I'm wrong but we are not doing the greatest individual season performance during the decade.

Obviously the title of this thread is "Team of the Decade". But is it meant to be cumulative, or at their peak? If I'm building one team - I'm putting peak Zibanejad at 1C, not peak Stepan. But as I said, it's close.

I generally think of a player's peak as being more than just one season. I mean otherwise, this isn't even a poll and we just arrange guys by who had the best season, and go home.

I think peak should certainly be considered, but also longevity, importance to the team, consistency, etc. Lots of things. Just throwing out a guy's tenure to choose another guy because of one superior season seems kind of weak to me. But everyone is of course entitled to their opinion.

I'm also not sure about last season being "peak" Zibanejad. Was it his best season? Of course. Is one season a peak? I know he's looked great this season, but he has looked great for ten-game stretches before.

Is Stepan's 44 in 48 "peak" Stepan? Or was it just a really good year? It tough to determine Zibanejad's peak here since he's in the middle of his tenure and had only had the one really good year.

I just feel like a player's peak is more than a year. It's a stretch of their career when they were playing their best.

Stepan but really only because he was here longer than Zibanejad has been here.

Plus he scored arguably the biggest goal in franchise history since 94.

Love Stepan, but Mika. I asked myself if I were starting a team and these two guys were the same age and available, who would I choose? Mika all day.

Just like if we were doing 2000-2009, I'd take Jagr over any other wingers the Rangers had even if he was only here for three years.
