Well…. They’ve played like a club level team recently, so there’s that.
I’d like to suggest the Marmots, based on team size. Can always change again, when/if size shows up… then maybe the Wooly Mammoths? If they get bigger, but not extremely so, perhaps the Mastodon’s!

They've stolen Colorado's use of Super Mario's mushroom sound effect when returning to full strength, so that seals that they'll also steal their Bigfoot and go with the Yeti, alas.

I don't understand how you can outright copy the mushroom growth sound effect for killing a penalty, let alone from the regional rival, yet they've done it.

They used it at Mullett last year as well.

I don't remember that at Mullett last year, but I do know the...Islanders, I think, started doing it.

Are you sure? Because I remember them always playing that annoying “Yeeaaahh!!” From Lil’ Jon. Embarrassing.
That's my memory of it.
Maybe the year before then, but definitely at Mullett.
I only ever recall hearing it in Colorado; I only stream the games, so broadcast sounds might not all carry through as well, but I really don't remember hearing it ever for the Coyotes.

Shame on them too.

One of my top favorite songs is sound of silence by disturbed.. so glad they stopped using after the other team scored

Shame on them (NYI - DOM) too.
meh, i dunno. it's clever. who cares where you hear it? Not like Nintendo was invented in Denver or something

Speaking of, I was in a Hampton Inn in South Carolina last week, and even though they've stopped using it as their goal song (I think - could be wrong), when I walked in the lobby and heard "You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates: "oh no, I think of Maple Leafs when I hear this now...and forever?"

It's too bad Chicago claimed the Hawks. Because calling them the Utah Hawks would've grown the game and given Utah more fans than the Golden Knights brought in.

I hope the team gets called the Outlaws...would make for a cool logo.

Yetis is close second place for me. It rolls off the tongue nicely but the only concern is that a Yeti logo with the current colour scheme would look too much like a knock off of the old WHL Winnipeg/Kootenay Ice jerseys (which were awesome).

If it has to be "Yeti", "Yetis"...at least make it fun...
I've seen dozens of angry-Yeti-head logos proposed...
I think Utah should borrow from the 1990's Quebec Rafales identity...

A friend claims he heard "Yeti" has been tough to secure, given competing trademark from the cooler company. Anyone else hearing this? Is this out there on social media at all?

Don't know. Did Seattle have trouble trademarking Kraken considering it was already being used by numerous businesses?

Colorado has a National Lacrosse team named Colorado Mammoth. There goes that idea.

The Avalanche's first mascot was a Yeti named Howler. Arizona ended up using the name Howler for their mascot and now Utah seems to be going with Yeti. Strange that this team has a history of using Colorado's ideas

I think it's also kind of weird that they have the name Avalanche, a secondary logo of a Yeti foot, and they changed to a dog for their mascot. Seems hodgepodge.
Pretty sure he fought someone. So cancel cancel hope people forget.

Hawks might have to change there name soon like redskins, Indians, etc. I kind of like keeping it as the Utah Hockey Club, its an old school name, its simple!

When I think of Utah I think of Mormonism, Gary Gilmore’s crimes and execution, and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Doubt a name can be pulled out of those 3 things

The issue probably has more to do with SEO related stuff... you'd want all searches for stuff like "Utah yeti", "yeti store", etc. to correctly route to the hockey team and not the coolers. It's especially hard because Yeti makes University of Utah licensed merchandise.

The Chicago Fire of MLS are kind of the ur-example of how to get this wrong... Google automatically associates the name with the TV show and while their website is among the top hits, it's dwarfed by the results for the show, the historical event, the city's fire department, etc. News about the team is drowned out by news about the show and any actual fire in the city. You don't want any part of that if at all possible

Utah Carp.Carp suck in mud and other matter from the bottom of bodies of water then spit it back up.Carp prefer warm lakes and ponds with muddy bottoms but can live in most freshwater habitats.
Perfect.
