The Oilers were literally 1 win away from winning the Stanley Cup with Stuart Skinner in net. And that with Draisaitl injured, and with Nurse and a rookie on defense.

Crosby won the Cup with Matt Murray in net.

Matt Murray was amazing prior to his injuries, go look at his save percentages in the playoffs for those two runs.

It's never one thing though, and this is definitely not the same team as last year.

The team was worse at this point last year, lol. Like people forget that part? They probably would've given up 4-5 goals to an AHL team this time last year, they couldn't defend anything for shit. This year at least the problem is mainly restricted to a ridiculously low shooting percentage and poor special teams.

Were they worse? 7 games in

xGA 14/14

The biggest difference between this year and last year is we had 2 goalies shorting up the world last year, and this year we are playing against much worse teams overall.

Yes they were worse last year, the defense was Taylor Hall-Nail Yakupov era bad, maybe worse. People wanted Bouchard off the team, lol.

They lost to freaking SAN JOSE in what was basically a must win game.

We lost to Chicago.

Chicago is a better team this year and has an explosive talent in Bedard.

San Jose had given up *10* goals against in 2 consecutive games just two games, finally securing a slim win against Philly before going up against us and we were desperate to have that game.

SJ lost 10-1 to Vancouver and then 10-2 to Pittsburgh the same week they beat us, lol. San Jose was 1-10-1 coming into that game.

Do people just develop amnesia in 12 months and think no one would remember any of that?

That was an extreme rock bottom, I don't even think the Hall-Eblerle-Yakupov era Oilers would lose that game.

Love how RNH always gets conveniently left out of that little trio. He was there … sucking worse than any of those mentioned except for Yakupov. For the record.
