Some line :O

Petteri Nummelin 1+2
Tomi Kallio 2+1
Ville Peltonen 1+1
Olli Jokinen 1+0

Four men, four goals ;)
Bäckis with 41 saves for the shutout. We have our starter, I believe ;)

Get Pirnes, Saravo, Eloranta and Söderholm out of there and take Pitkänen, Koivu and Miettinen from AHL playoffs if they drop out fast.

Those 4 are total tourists IMHO, I can't believe they took Pirnes instead of Immonen.

Pakaslahti instead of Pirjetä??? WTF is going on there, has Kurri been hitting the sauce yesterday or what??

Saravo better be the extra d-man because he's useless. Pretty mickeymouse team upfront, Ruutu and Jokinen are the only tough forwards.

Wow, the Czechs got their ass kicked!

I didn't see the last period, (because we have only one tv and my wife made it very clear that she just had to watch it because of some petty reality show :p: ), but here's a few observations from the first two periods;

- Niklas Bäckström was great. Very calm and solid. His saves kept us in the game escecially in the first period.

- Czechs were more skilled and stronger, but we wanted it more. This was meaningless game, so maybe the lack of trying doesn't tell so much about the Czech team, but I like the way Team Finland fought the victory from this game. Our chances in the tournament are based on 2 things, great goaltending and a big heart, and we had both of these today. If we can build good team spirit with wins like these, our chances grow significantly.

- Jokinen's line did very well, but I'm still a bit worried if any other line can score...

- I'm glad they kicked Pirnes off the team, he wasn't very good today. Neither was Hahl, but he had to play on the wing. Pakaslahti made it to the final team, but I guess that's ok. Now that I've used to the thought, I kinda like the idea that we have him around, a defensive specialist who's good at faceoffs. I'm also glad that J.Jokinen and Viuhkola stayed. Mäntylä had to go from the D. To me it was quite indifferent who of the four (Söderholm, Saravo, Kukkonen, Mäntylä) would have to leave, so Mäntylä was a good choice.

I hope Bäckström is the starter. He has been phenomenal for last few weeks. Definitely in his hot streak now.

Team looks OK, I would not have picked Pakaslahti but if he does not play much, I guess we can live with that. He should mainly just take faceoffs :)

This team looks like one who will bore the audience to sleep, but win 1-0 in the end. Once again lots of good skating, and sub par shooting, but what the heck if it brings results. This team will outskate every opponent, and probably is in the best physical condition, but it also lacks talent especially on scoring. Recently we have been fed disappointment in the worlds, this time it's hard to get disappointed. Making the quarterfinals is pretty much all you can ask from this team on paper, and yet it can go all the way in a tournament.

They did kick the Czech ass quite impressively...no matter if it was a "meaningless game". Bäckströms hot hand can carry the team a long way.

I hope some of our guys score with the same percentage as they've done in the EHT ;)

Jussi Jokinen was the point leader of EHT, with three less games than third placed Ilya Kovalchuk (Ville Peltonen is second on the list).

Jussi scored 7 goals and 5 assists in 8 games for 12 points. Now this is interesting... Jussi had the grand total of... 10 shots, giving him a shooting percentage of 70%. Keep it up in the world champ, thanks ;)

In other comments Petri Pakaslahti scored two goals on two shots in EHT... Along with two assists.

But now to the extraordinary thing ;)

Timo Pärssinen scored three goals on two shots, giving him a grand shooting percentage of 150%

Maybe scoring won't be a problem for us after all ;)

Yup. Norrena. Still, I have to say that Bäckström was a positive surprise.

What!? He's been hot for whole season, at least in play-offs, so it shouldn't have been surprise that he's excellent. Hopefully he's the primary goalie.

He should be the starter IMO. Norrena was lucky to get the nod for every game for Linköping in their playoffs.

I suppose Pakaslahti won't play many games in the WCH. I'm actually glad that he was chosen instead of Pirjetä, so Viuhkola will get more ice time.

Again... what was wrong with Norrena against Södertälje?
He lacked confidence, played the puck poorly, didn't engage in the game as he did in the regular season, making the defense confused.

He has been good the whole season but he has sucked in Team Finland before. That's why it was a positive surprise to me that he played well in Team Finland.

When has he actually sucked in the national team? He just hadn't been outstanding before the sunday's game, but he certainly has always been at least at a mediocre level, But not sucked.

I'd agree.

IMO he sucked last season's EHT tournaments where he participated. He just plain and simply sucked imho. Now we have two pretty good goalies and quite equal too. Norrena has a bit more experience when it comes to national level and he is the number one in my books simply because his experience.
