WC: Team Finland 2025

I forgot that Kupari even existed, now it's more clear situation why they haven't stamped in anyone. Kupari and Kotkaniemi, neither didn't get to play in 4Nations and this is almost the last chance to show that they belong in the Olympic team. Unless they really kick ass next season, without any injuries they would have hard time making the team.

Until now it didn't make much sense why they didn't stamp in Järvinen/Ikonen after Lehkonen/Kiviranta declined. Dallas or Florida additions has never been realistic. Kotkaniemi doesn't look realistic, i don't see Canes losing.

Puckpedia and CapSpace seems to have his contract ending this year and that is sort of their craft so I assume that is correct. NHLFinns which is neat site without anything too fancy has it ending 26, but the focus of that site has been on floorball lately I feel.
I'm not about to start arguing with Puckpedia. Anyway, it changes little, as I consider Kupari a long shot even if he does have a contract. I mean, I wouldn't complain if he was given an invite, but late-adding a non-established player who hasn't seen ice outside practice in nearly two months would be pretty desperate.

I
By the time Nyman was available, he would have used one of the two open spots. And I see nothing questionable in not using one of them on a player who was 0+1 and -5 in the AHL playoffs when there was and still is a chance of picking up a bona fide established NHLer for both of those spots.
I missed that fact with the two spots back then. Thought it was afterwards. Then you are absolutely correct.

Difficult time seeing Kotkaniemi though. No matter what. And as you mentioned they lead the series with 3-1. Kupari seems more realistic and I'm more intrigued by him. Because Kotkaniemi won't make top6-9 is my belief. Kupari on the other hand have some strengths that make him a possible fourth liner if he would have a good upcoming season that is. Would also be more excited to see what he can bring to the table in a top role. If he's on an above European level or where he stands at the current moment.

Yeah Kupari could be an upgrade. I may be wrong, but Jets and Kupari could have different kind value in mind. For Matinpalo and Pärssinen who just have their foot in the door took what was given (even Pärssinen got surprisingly good contract). Kupari has over 200 NHL games, but still a healthy scratch in playoffs.

I did check where Hyry was, but he is still in Texas Stars. Would have been slight upgrade, but not worth waiting really

Kupari has everything to win if he gets an invite and participates. Make it happen. Of course, if he's injury free and has got back his conditioning etc.

Hyry probably plays in the NHL next year. Making Dallas even better. Question is if he's top9 or bottom 3 for them. But the Stars have some serious depth. Mavrik, Blumel, Hyry and Hryckowian coming up as bottom 6 isn't bad.

The AHL is a dead end at this point. The earliest any players still stuck with their day jobs would be available is May 21st, meaning such a player would make it no sooner than the possible semifinals. And if this present team somehow makes the semis, they will obviously ride it till the bitter end.

I really hope Pennanen watches Sweden. Resting Markström today as well. I hope Saros only plays one of those two games against Slovakia and Canada. Right now I surely prefer Annunen getting a shot before Larmi.

Globen is very exhausting for goalies because of the warm temperature. Think I would prefer Saros against Slovakia and Annunen against Canada. Either way I mostly hope they get one each.

Florida won, and it pretty much killed our chances of getting any established NHLers. Even if Toronto turns it around, the theoretical additions wouldn't make it here before the QF.

This means we should get all the remaining answers on Friday. They likely won't be changing the lineup for today's game, but if they don't register Järvinen by tomorrow, then they are indeed interested in Kupari.

Kupari together with TT, Tolvanen, Leppänen and Hämeenaho would at least make it interesting to follow and study individuals in this team.

Slovenia could be the last win for us in this group, if that even.

Worst PP and PK in the tournament so far? You guessed it, Finland. Terrible, just terrible.

Looks like every year our most likely additions (when healthy) are going far into the playoffs. It's great but at the same time our WHC team suffers from it.

Rantanen, Aho, Lindell, Granlund, Heiskanen, Hintz, Luostarinen, Lundell, Barkov and Mikkola all would be massive upgrades. Kapanen and Kotkaniemi would be better than most players too but I wouldn't call them as big upgrades as the rest. Kupari hasn't got much playing time recently, so not counting him. 10 guys from our best-on-best roster still playing, it's both amazing and kinda sad.

I do hope as many Finns as possible win the cup though.

They did register Järvinen. Ofcourse not totally out of question that they would add Kupari. I´m not sure why they still keep the D open. I guess it is possible that there aren´t many available either. Locked their family/vacation plans after they got cut. And add some of the Marlies players Niemelä/Kokkonen if Toronto gets cut because they are in the black aces group. Who knows.

But I think this is going the right way. Players that have spend time with team are getting in the team and players in NHL could advance. WHC is not dead serious thing.

And I was North Stars fan as kid. I have still soft spot for Stars. And having Granlund in the team I´m hoping they win the whole thing. Florida and Carolina has also always got my sympathy even before they were crowded by Finns. More than happy if those teams would be in Conference finals.

Finland will beat Latvia and Slovakia. Don't know what you are talking about. That being said, I'd take Kupari and Nyman or one of them with an available dman, even if its Mattila .

Good for you then. I believe TT is the only one able of creating anything note worthy when we face tougher opponents than Slovenia.
Tolvanen is able to score against any goalie but he wont create opportunities by himself. Either he smashes a rebound or shoots his crisp shot.
If you think Pärssinen and Puistola will dominate against Latvia and Slovakia i hope you are right. Because i don't.
Hämeenaho can rip it off but at this level so far he's a bit of a Tolvanen light. Wont create anything by himself is my belief. I hope i am wrong of course.

Ye sure. Talk to you after Finland smashes Latvia and Slovakia.

I hope the Kraken draft a good playmaking center who can actually help to push and further develop Tolvanen and Nyman.
Wouldn't hurt if it gets Kakko going a bit as well.
Beniers is not him. Decent center but more of a second. Fast but not that great at either creating- playmaking nor scoring.

Hope Kakko can play with either Tolvanen or Nyman in the same line in the future.

I mean if he thinks Mattila strengthens the team more than Kupari or another? Then Pennanen surely is smarter than me.
Nothing bad against Mattila. I just wonder how much this actually benefits the team at the end of the day.

Well, for starters, Kupari is a forward while Mattila is a d-man. And since he's a direct replacement for the injured Sund, he doesn't use a spot. They can still add one more skater - either Ikonen or someone from overseas.

---

I'm not complaining about Mattila - as Sanf said, he's as good as any other euro d-man - but I'm kind of surprised they went for him instead of one of the last cuts from the camp roster, like Vittasmäki, Virtanen or Thomson. I guess it's possible that they all declined. But if Mattila was the first-choice replacement, it kind of makes one question why he didn't make it from the start.
