WC: Team Finland 2025

Helenius did not play that many minutes per game and it got to few shifts in playoffs. I appreciate the work he has done and root for him. But he has purpose in the lineup there. In WHCs sure. He could make it work with regular shift. But in olympics where he would need to make regular shift against the group of "bests". I´m not sure about it.
I actually entertain the idea of at least considering Rasmus Kupari as 4th line center for the Olympics or winger on the 4th line. He's one of the fastest in the league and good at face-offs. Defends well and has skill and size. Anyway, going back to the upcoming WHC, will be interesting to see what happens tonight with Colorado Vs Dallas. We'll probably hear on Monday/Tuesday if we are getting some reinforcements from NA. Including maybe Helenius.

Best case scenario is that Rantanen, Hintz and Lindell, all want to come and even though contractless, Granny can't resist to join as well, because his teammates are coming. I actually consider Granlund to be the biggest fish out of these players, because he's always so good in the national team.

So, Lehkonen is a possibility, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

As for 8-2... I'm not going to freak out over something like that in an EHT game when the team's still finding its legs. The important question is, what did they learn from it? If nothing, then we have a reason to worry.

Can anyone tell me what's the matter with the Finns? 2-8 against Switzerland, 2-6 against Sweden, and against the Czechs they lost 2-4? It seems the game against the Czechs was the least bad, at least from the result. 3 games, 3 losses, and against the Swiss and Swedes with a high negative result.

Yay, Matinpalo. Interesting to see that both late additions, Vittasmäki and Koppanen got cut.

Overall, I'm happy with this selection. No so-called "stupid" cuts no one saw coming.

Is it the first time for Mikael Ruohomaa, Lenni Hämeenaho, Eemil Erholtz, Nikolas Matinpalo, Atro Leppänen, Robin Salo, and Mikael Seppälä, and the goalie Justus Annunen in the Finnish NT at WHC? I don't remember having seen them playing before for the NT; the other players, I'm quite sure they have already played at the WHC.

It's the 2nd for Ruohomaa (1st was in 2021), Matinpalo (2023) - and the 4th for Seppälä (2021, 2022, 2023). But as they say about stay-at-home d-men like him, they're doing a good job if nobody notices them.

The first-timers in this squad are Annunen, Leppänen, Salo, Hämeenaho, Erholtz, Ikonen, Järvinen and Pärssinen.

Funny with the studio BS, where Ismo Lehkonen put his son, Artturi among the final selections for the WHC. Colorado's NHL series just ended, so there's still time, but I really don't think that Artturi will actually come.

Allright! Let's play hockey!

Gold medalist lineup looks like...

Tolvanen - Pärssinen - Teräväinen
Pesonen - Ruohomaa - Merelä
Puistola - Järvinen - Hämeenaho
Lammikko - Björninen - Oksanen
Erholtz, Ikonen

Rissanen - Lehtonen
Seppälä - Leppänen
Salo - Saarijärvi
Sund - Matinpalo

Saros
Larmi
Annunen
--------------
Nice to see many 1st participants, allthough i wouldn't stamp in Erholtz & Ikonen before status on Lehkonen is confirmed.

Bit surprised to see Thomson cut, regular season+playoffs compined, Thomson had 20 goals. But we have Lehtonen and Leppänen to man the PP units.

I still got a good feeling that Lehkonen shows up ... Let's see 🙈 🙈

Thank you for your reply. I thought Pärssinen has already played in the NT at the WHC, but possibly I have mistaken him for a player with a similar name.

Well that's a terrible team. I'm considering rooting against so that Pennanen will get fired and a proper coach brought in for the Olympics.

We heard that many times before. Finland always do good. Even with mediocre rosters. This team will work their asses off. Dont put too much faith in the recent EHT. Its just practice. Players dont even go 100 in it, nobody wants to get injured before WC.
