WC: Team Finland 2025

We shouldn't count our chicks before they've hatched and all that, but all the early signs and scuttlebutt point towards this one shaping up to be one of the strongest on-paper teams in the recent years.

The only department I'm a bit iffy about are the centers, but we'll see what happens.

The last time we had a WHC goalie tandem that consists of two NHL regulars was in 2003 (Pasi Nurminen - Jani Hurme). Given how that tournament ended, I hope this is not an omen.

If we scratch the "regular" requirement, then the last time was in 2017 (Joonas Korpisalo - Harri Säteri).

Could Tikka steal a spot? Really physical, can be good having someone like that on the 4th line
Really depends on how many players will come from North America. Like I said earlier he has played for Pennanen earlier which is advantage. And might be sort of role player that Pennanen might take. Pest. Watched him for some seasons in my home town team. There is Finnish saying "Uhka vai Mahdollisuus" and I think this applys to here. :) Translates something like problem or opportunity.

Like I said earlier, I like how this team is shaping up... save for top-six centers. We're set with goalies. Were still waiting for news on a couple of overseas additions for D, but I like our European selection a lot even if we get nothing from the big league, especially if Lehtonen joins after the Swiss league finals are over. Got a really solid stock of wingers with likely more on the way.

As for center... well, between Björninen, Leino and possibly Lammikko bottom-six will be fine. Top-six, however, could use some improvement, especially with such a solid winger situation. The only worthy Euro addition is Suomela. Ruohomaa would be an improvement on the present roster, but not a guy I'd put much stock on if he's there in the final team. Of the present roster, there's some surprise potential in Keskinen and Marjala, but right now they're both unknowns.

Luckily, a lot can still happen. Will have to look at the situation again in two weeks when the first rounds are over in both the NHL and the AHL. Perhaps it'll be a different picture then.

I really hope to see Nyman on this team. I remember how we didn't usually take players from AHL but now I feel like we have a good chance to get him if his games are done.
He should make the team if he becomes available. Not sure if he'd help with our center situation, though, so I don't quite get why you chose to quote me, basically repeating what you already said two posts ago.

Oliver Kapanen or Konsta Helenius could be options for center if their teams are eliminated quickly (I expect Montreal to be out soon). Especially Kapanen could be great considering the season he just had.

Whats the deal with Matias Maccelli? Has been a healthy scratch for about two months now. Is he injured, or could he could over to play?

Just no room for him at the moment. Maccelli needs to be in top 6 spot and Utah has options there. He wasn't having a good season so it was easy to play someone who was.

Injuries and a lot of the top players have won gold already.

Yeah, I'm aware of these two, which is why I mentioned the AHL, too. Although, I'm not 100% sure what the rules are regarding AHL assignments right now, and if Kapanen could be assigned if the Habs bow out early. Laval is one of the top teams in the minor league.

Another name who made his WHC bones last year and I wouldn't scoff at is Arttu Hyry. Though in his case I dunno if the big club would like to have him around if Texas gets eliminated.

If Dallas go out, who is likely to come?
-Granlund doesn't have a contract for next year
-Rantanen had a very difficult season, can't see him coming
-Hintz would be a great as a first center
-Heiskanen has injury issues
-Lindell I'd say is the most likely one

They all played in 4nations and are sure things for olympics. I would assume the disapointment would be too big for them if Dallas goes out early. Somehow doubt that any of the players would come.

edit. Well Heiskanen wasn´t but he is far from full health so he won´t come anyways.

None of the Dallas players have anything to prove to be part of the Olympics team. I think that Granlund, Heiskanen and Lindell are definitely out. Hintz and Rantanen are maybes, though I wouldn't bet any money of them joining.
