Lauri Mikkola's contract for next tournament confirmed, sadly. At least he had one year to practice now, but I got low trust that result wise it will do us Finns any good.

Why do you believe Huttu and Kuusla will go before Koivu, Alasiurua, Uronen and perhaps even Pikkarainen or Loponen? Roles?

Otherwise very precise and I do believe your prediction should be at least 90% right already, which is a strong prediction.

That line Kuusla - Rautiainen - Kiiskinen has been absolutely dominant starting from February U19 tournament to April one. And Kuusla actually leading U20 NT in points thus far this season. He has been my favourites long time really good player provides more offence in my oppinion to those that you mentioned. And Huttu also my favourites I think big rightie center would be good extra but could see Uronen there aswell. Huttu is currently captain of the B team. Koivu/Pikkarainen/Loponen haven't been so impressive thus far and Alasiurua is more of a just filler.

+also Leppä/Saarelainen duo did well in showcase but center position so stacked Tom doesn't make my team atm

Love this informative and detailed answer. Thank you.

Yeah Saarelainen has been become a favorite after witnessing him the first time last year. To me he feels like a very un-finnish prospect nowadays. Motor, and not afraid of driving. Excited to follow him and see what he can become.

I thought Kuusla stagnated long time ago so I will check him out a bit more further on.
This roster won't have the biggest stars but if they can get together a good team and good defense? It's not weak by any means either. A lot of top4 and top6-9 kind of prospects at this level and hopefully with good goaltending.

Vinni or Vali, that's the question. Vedenpää not considered a starter going in to this season.

Games vs Canada and USA will be murder on the ice anyway
so i don't care is it Vedenpää, Vinni or Vali or someone else
like Rimpinen or Saarinen who's gonna play most games.

I don't have medal expections this years U20 WJC's
so play that goalie who's hot and gode mode no matter is it Vali, Vinni, Vedenpää, Rimpinen or Saarinen

Miettinen-Helenius-Hemming
Rautiainen-Kumpulainen-Halttunen
Kuusla-Hynninen-Kiiskinen
Nurmi-Saarelainen-Vesterinen

Sinivuori-Koivu-Uronen
Alasiurua-Ruohonen-Pikkarainen
Huttu

If Helenius won't participate I would rather se Miettinen as the second center behind Kumpulainen.
If Koivu or any of the centers can play on wing I could see him go before Kuusla and Rautiainen.
If that fourth line could have chemistry I really do believe they could be one of the most exciting fourth lines for Finland at this level. If healthy I can picture both Nurmi and Saarelainen punish every opponent on the counter. Uronen or Vesterinen is a tougher call.
This fourth line makes me reminisce Antti Pihlström and others in the final against Sweden when they were favorites.

D´s: Soini, Daniel Nieminen, Pieniniemi, Muhonen, Nykyri, Kangas, Mitja Jokinen, Kiviharju, Väisänen.

Pieniniemi-Kiviharju
Väisänen-Soini
Muhonen-Nieminen

Nykyri-Mitja Jokinen
Junkkari-Kangas

Too few right handed D's, unfortunately. But a lot of offensive minded D's without being good enough to outplay the biggest opponents, at least questionable. So I do believe Pieniniemi, Muhonen and others will be a needed asset in this roster. If Kiviharju hasn't worked on his skating he's no sure bet against NA teams. Nieminen intrigues me. Muhonen too in a different way with his size skating and defensive ability. But Mitja Jokinen could probably replace many in the linuep. One of few who was good for the u18. While Väisänen but especially Kiviharju was lacklustering.

Overall nothing screams special but I would claim there should be a lot of decent depth in this roster.

Vinni, Rimpinen, Vali.
So far very difficult to decide. Both Vinni and Vali have been known goalie prospects for a while. Vedenpää hasn't shown anything worth mentioning. Rimpinen? So far he actually seems to be able to steal the first spot.

Vinni was in back surgery during the off-season and he hasn't played any games yet.
HIFK loaned him Jokipojat Joensuu mestis team but Vinni hasn't played there either.
If rumors are true Vinni has had some step-backs etc delayings in his recovery
so it is possible he won't be in U20 WJC team.

Aatos Koivu 5 points in 11 Liiga games. He should be in the mix.
He's not as good as Kumpulainen, Saarelainen, nor Helenius. Miettinen can play center as well.
Only one I can see him compete with regarding a center spot now and- or before was and is Hynninen. But Hynninen is one year older and yeah, I believe they are pretty even.

In the mix? Of course, but no sure bet whatsoever. Not yet at least.

My take is that Hemming could be losing his spot to Uronen or someone else soon. He's no bottom 6 forward for me with his style of playing and his production is weak in a junior league. He has to step it up from now.
Him and Koivu are the ones that can take a spot amongst these imo and it's close. But those names above that won't take place in my updated list should unlikely earn a spot in the final roster if nothing extraordinary happens.

Right now I have completely updated the forward lines:
Miettinen-Helenius-Kiiskinen
Rautiainen-Kumpulainen-Uronen

Kuusla-Hynninen-Vesterinen
Nurmi-Saarelainen-

Marked ones down below are those considered as centers.
-Koivu-Hemming
Alasiurua-Huttu-
Ruohonen
Loponen

The marked ones above amongst the top4 are locks for me in a roster. Nurmi is a personal lock because he could be a role player. The other marked ones should objectively be locks because they' re too good compared to the competition to be left out.
I could also see Vesterinen as a LW instead of Kuusla and that Hemming then takes the RW spot instead of Kuusla. Could also see Kuusla and Hemming as LW-RW and move Vesterinen to the fourth line and get a true and complete energy line as our fourth.
If something drastic doesn't happen I hope Koivu is considered as 13th because when we look at possible centers? He's not even top5 for us. Because Miettinen can play in that role as well. And we need some size because the smaller players in this roster like Vesterinen, Saarelainen and perhaps even Hynninen are bigger locks than Koivu ever should be considered. Hopefully we won't see any nepotism here. They need to earn it.

Last but not least, Veeti Väisänens season is also very disappointing and there is no way around it. A couple of "late bloomers" amongst the D's could snap his spot in the end. Needs to have a good November month just like Hemming.

Edit: If Hemming steps it up and earns that third RW spot and can buy the role and Vesterinen plays in the fourth line? Then I do believe we have somewhat good depth in our forward lines. Which will be needed against teams like Sweden, Canada and talents like Hagens and others.
With good goaltending and coaching we could be outside contenders. Should be better than last year no matter what.

No Halttunen?
Thank you k89. God of course, forgot him because he's done surprisingly well. His size and just because he participated last year made me believe unconsciously believe he was one year older than he is.

Well, right now that settles it. I left one spot open and that's of course his. Hemming is surely out for me at this moment because of Halttunens position and Kiiskinen earning a top6 role with his season.
Kuusla, Uronen, Nurmi, Koivu and Hemming will be the ones what will fight for different spots for me personally then.
Of course Miettinen can play center as well. But I hope to see net presence from him together with Helenius IQ and Halttunens scoring potential and good shot. Kiiskinen would balance the second line better than Halttunen.

Miettinen-Helenius-Halttunen
Rautiainen-Kumpulainen-Kiiskinen
Kuusla-Hynninen-Uronen
Nurmi-Saarelainen-Vesterinen

These lines aren't cat piss by any means. Could actually be an exciting tournament.
If Kuusla or Nurmi are cut out I do see Hemming as the first replacement before Koivu because of other better centers. If he won't play wing that is.

Alasiurua-Koivu-Hemming
Ruohonen, Huttu, Loponen
