I remember some danes dit not like Janne Karlsson and blamed his
Swedish mentality for being the reason for the failure in 2018. But Gath and Lilja, 2
Swedes is the coaches for this team. So Swedish mentality still works.
Of course you’re going to be blamed

You’re are the ones that taught us how play this game properly.
2018 came down to a 1-0 loss to Latvia and no Ehlers that year.
Karlsson coached the team to a quarterfinal berth in 2016, avoided relegation in 2015 (on paper a fairly weak Danish team) and finished with a winning record against Germany (2-0), Czech Republic (2-0) & Norway (3-1) plus a win against Finland. Sure the olympic qualification tournament didn't go as planned (upsets goes both ways), still pretty decent IMO considering all things.
Gath faced some criticism last year. Guess it comes with the job (although we don’t have much of a “hockey-press") and some people where perhaps thinking Mikael who? I might have a selective memory, but coaching changes for Denmark have always looked better in year 2 or 3, than year one. Still he got the job done (avoided relagation) last year and while perhabs not a pretty tournament, Denmark also won the olympic qualification tournament back in august. He made adjustments compared to last year and also in this year’s tournament.
The three opening games were lackluster at times, but looking at the countries we were up against, expecting points, yet alone wins in those games not a very likely outcome. Hindsight it also almost looks like the games aginst the USA, Czech Republic and Switzerland were use a additional exhibition matches (having only played three, prior to the start of the tournament).
Some years Denmark has also put up good performances against some of the elite nations and then almost collapsed against other teams, where the odds of winning were way more favorably. This year they seem to have hit the right balance.
Holy shiiiiet guys. Insane. Hopefully this makes hockey more popular in Denmark. Great day for Nordic! Sweden and Denmark in semifinal!!
If people here in Denmark were unaware of Denmark actually having a national team in hockey, they at least now should know that it exist.
The win over Canada caught the general media’s attention. With the olympics coming up next year, it’s also a good time to hit the spotlight so to speak and hopefully this gives Danish hockey a much needed boost.
The junior program has struggled (at least in terms of how the U-20, U18 & U16 teams have performed at the interntional level) for years and the lack of new rinks, especially in cities where hockey isn't an option as a team sport remains.
So although the number of active hockey players ( +6.000) is at a all-time high, the lack of rinks obviously limits the overall player growth. This issue is again not a new one and not something that can be changed overnight.
Still with increased attention/popularity, the financial support has the potential to improve and those funds, if used wisely could be invested in optimizing the talent development of the current player-pool.
We don't seem to have too many Denmark fans at HFB. Too bad. It would have been nice to see their reaction.
My initial one would have been; “Ehlers!!!”, then “Olesen!!!?” followed by “they did it!!!.”
