we are deepest at centre and in net

the defense isn't so deep and the wingers not so impressive at the back end

looking at these guys make me think Gretzky's team picked the right bunch for the olympic squad




though one noteworthy absence still irks me (see the kariya thread)

Canada's 1st team will maybe beat this years version of Tre Kronor every 10th game. So I have a hard time seeing how Canada's 2nd team is on the same planet? :dunno:

Oh and as for comments on the 2nd team. I'd probably keep the goalies the way they are. I would definetly add Scott Hannan. He's a glaring ommision. Bouwmeester would be cut. (unless he was taxi) I would also maybe look for another defense-first defenseman ala McKee as your defensive group isn't strong enough in their own end. (too much offense)

Up front, I would dconsider bringing in guys like Lemieux & Yzerman mainly for their presence. (especially as you'd be leaning on younger guys to shoulder a lot of the scoring load) Recchi would be cut. No way he he should be on the fourth line. I also would take a guy like Allison or Savard over Stillman any day. (even if they are centers) Lindros would warrant consideration also. And lastly I would look to add more of a defensive/physical presence on the fourth line. Don't forget you are building a team, not a collection of individuals. I would give guys like Kirk Maltby, Matt Cooke and - don't laugh - even Sean Avery a looksie for a spot on the fourth line.

Oh - and anyone who thinks this team couldn't challenge for gold needs to give their head a shake. In a tournament with a format like the Olympics, this team would have as good a chance as basically anybody. (Canada #1 included)

Bergeron could play RW/C. Remember how good he was with Crosby at the World Juniors? I'd put him on the team instead of Recchi.
 
Could add Mario Lemieux, Brendan Morrisson and Glen Murray to this 2nd team !

The defense would be very solid !

Yes, forgot about Lemieux (as hard as it is to believe). Had him projected for the first team, then didn't drop him to the second. Put him on the first line, Crosby on the second line, Briere on the third line and Savard as the 13th forward. Arnott replaces Morrison on the Taxi Squad.

(I have Yzerman on my third team, in case anyone is wondering).

Starting with todd's lines, and doing my own adjusments I made a "B" and a "C" team:

Both of these teams could easily medal in a shourt tournament like the Olympics. I'd put the "B" team nearly on par with the Swedes or Czechs, and the "C" team around USA's level:

Briere/Turgeon/Brunette/Murray/Comrie/Allison/Lindros were my last cuts on forward

On defense my last cuts were Brisebois/Ference/Both Jackmans/McKee + Shaone Morrisonn and Jamie Heward (who are both having good seasons, but I know nothing about).

The next goalies would be Biron/Fleury/Roloson/Weekes/Garon.

I know the positions aren't exactly correct, but let me know if I have any glaring omissions.
