Olympics: Team Canada 2026

My 2026 Defence Take:
Top Four remains cemented and I don't think anyone disagrees.

I don't think either of the 2 big guys did anything wrong although it is big ice I am sticking with them as a shut down pair.

Extra 2 Defence:

I wanted to leave Doughty off but I think his presence and experience were on full display and he is not even up to speed he has to take 1 spot. From there I think you can go any which way you want. Harley did nothing wrong & and is young and a stud. Morrissey is having an amazing year. Might come down to one of those 2 and I think Halrye is bigger with more upside.

Binnington despite meh goals all tournament showed up when it mattered most.

Thompson + Blackwood/Hill stick out to me.

It seems Thompson has made someone upset so I am going to guess he is not included.

Bennett - Suzuki - Wilson

Extra: Seth Jarvis/Johnston

Each line has two centers. I can easily see Wilson move up the lineup. I think one of Cirelli/Suzuki/Schiffle make the team. I preferably think Suzuki is the most interchangeable in the lineup, which helps his case.

Johnston is faster than Suzuki if we want more speed up the middle.

sorry about yesterday man. It was a VERY ROUGH day and sleep for you. I slept like a baby and dreamt of Marner (best player AINEC) crossing out defensemen, setting up goals, and game winners. Feels real good.

I'm a homer, but I agree, Wilson absolutely needs to be on the team. The physical presence he brings was sorely missed in the 4 nations tournament. Great PKer and he can score, no brainer for me.

Even though we won in OT, I DO NOT like the idea of having Marner with McDavid. I think McDavid and Point had something good going in the Finland game and would love for them to able to gel with more games played.

Hyman has no business being on this team. This tournament showed that McDavid can be successful with just about any player. Mark Stone provides more than Hyman and though he did not put up points, was very sound in the neutral zone this entire tournament.

I do not think Suzuki makes the team barring spectacular play AND showing up the worlds. He's not good enough to play in the top 6 and he's not great enough defensively to play in the bottom 6. Great all-around player, but someone like Robert Thomas adds more dimensions in the bottom 6 while being a better FO taker.

Scheifele should be on here somewhere (maybe over wilson) if you already have Bennett

A big fkc off to Pietrangelo he had his chance ...not sure about Wilson on the big Olympic ice surface though I like his size and toughness and has scored regularly this year paired with PLD!!!

I agree that he's a no brainer :sarcasm:

His forechecking could be a big factor for sure, the only real potential issue with him is the possibility that he could do something dumb and lose the tournament with a 5 minute major.

Btw, where were you when I was defending Marner when he made the behind the back pass to nobody with the net empty in the first US game?

I could have used your support back then.

Meanwhile, Sanderson and Tkachuk scoring coupled with a Canada win?

Couldn’t have asked for more, slept like a baby.

I’m pleased to hear that Matthews costing his team the game didn’t bother your sleep. He had a couple of assists so it wasn’t all bad.

I imagine he didn’t sleep very well though given his vantage point for the game winning goal.

I like Hagel but he's not Canada's best 12 or even top 18...Cirelli too though he won some faceoffs and blocked some shots...can't wait until Celebrini,Bedard are good enough...Martone and M Misa too...Canada needs to produce more D-men and Goaltenders with Size 6-4,6-5,6-6...

Gotta give him credit, he's cleaned up his game a ton over the past few years. I can't imagine him losing his head and taking a major in a stage as big as the Olympics.

Thought he played well. Cirelli was more underwhelming.

It will always amaze me how Hagel has more even-strength points than guys like Eichel, Rantanen, Marner, Crosby, Connor, Scheifele, Hughes. All while having Anthony Cirelli as his center, playing a complete 200ft. game and being one of the best forecheckers in hockey right now.

He grew up in Calgary, at least his hockey playing years. Sanderson is one of those players who likely ended up on USA because the national team development program existed as an option for him. Sanderson went to the ntdp after his initial plans with the Brooks Bandits didn't work out. It's a moot point now, but he is a player who would have been eligible for Canada until the u18 tournament.
 
I forget whether this has been figured out or not....is Makar eligible for the Olympics as of today or is Hockey Canada still blanket banning players from that team as of this moment?

Honestly it pisses me off when a kid whose Father,GrandFather and GreatGrandFather and down the line are Canadian and they don't have heart enough to play for Canada,wow sickening

After a decade of disappointing drafts, the pipeline is still looking *chef’s kiss* and it’s time to phase in the next wave! That begins with Bedard and Celebrini getting the chance to see what they can do with the big boys next year, over Marchand and Stone, while Cirelli drops out in favour of whichever of our established elite centres (Scheifele, Suzuki, Thomas, or perhaps a Fantilli who is seriously turning the corner) deserves it most next season. Meanwhile, an excellent bonus to this tournament was Harley finally beginning to get recognition as a truly elite two-way defenseman who is here to stay on our top squad.
