Olympics: Team Canada 2026

I think Cirelli and Marchand are easy subtractions upfront....I expect Doughty doesn't make it on the back end. With it being an international tournament with IIHF refs I am not sure how much Bennett will be needed either.

I think if he continues the way he is playing the rest of the year, and early part of next year- Mackenzie Blackwood is one of my three Canadian Goaltenders (especially over Binnington). Got to go with Thompson, Hill, and Blackwood in the Olympics.

It's going to matter if they can't find a goalie who doesn't give up a softie per game.

If Binnington does well (wins) on Thursday, he will be at the Olympics.

Good point - I forgot about the IIHF refs.

My guess : The NHL will demand NHL refs.
 
Yes Canada will have a better team next time but no Canada will not separate from America like it was 20 years ago. The Americans have caught up.

Check again in 5 years (2030 Olympics) when the U.S.'s 2016-2019 drafts have gotten older/slower and the young Canadians in the pipeline step up.
 
From this current team I’d be inclined to remove Marchand and Stone for certain. Maybe Cirelli as well if we can develop a checking centre with more offensive upside. Bennett has exceeded my expectations at this tournament but will have limited utilization in an Olympic setting.

There are a lot of young D who may step up. Still, it will be very hard to break into the Top 4.

I still love Doughty.

Skipping Scheifele for what reason
 
The Olympic team will be shockingly similar to the four nations team. You're not going to see Canada's management add one-dimensional forwards to the bottom-six.

Bedard doesn't possess the skill set to thrive in a bottom-six role, and at this stage of his career, he isn’t better at producing offence than any in the top-six. It's the same with Schiefele.

It'll at least be more justified because you will absolutely have to kill penalties at the Olympics.
