WC: Team Canada 2025

Kind of exciting following the Canada teambuilding this year. Lots of players saying they are willing to go of asked. That leads to believe that the final roster will be a good one, and that a lot of pieces/players is in play.

Only 5 "confirmed" so far, and all those 5 are very good. To be continued.

I just don't understand who they will find better than Horvath, Fantilli, Johnson and Dobson. At the same time, they are considering the candidacies of Myers and Debrask.

If Kent Johnson, Adam Fantilli, and Bo Horvat haven't been asked yet then what the **** is Dubas doing with his days?

Also, lol at people who think we should hold off on a Bo Horvat invite in case we can do better. Have you guys ever followed the WHC before? Have you seen the slop we have to take year over year to fill out the roster? We can consider ourselves lucky if we don't end up with Mathieu Joseph on the team again.

Horvat is in the mix for the Olympic team. He's a no brainer for this roster, give me a break.

Between the young kids and the possibility that St Louis might be out in Round 1, I can see Hockey Canada hedging their bets. Would I be happy if I was a 2nd choice? No but, as a professional, I'd understand.

Having said all that, I agree : Fantilli, Johnson and (to a lesser extent - I'm not a fan) Horvat would be on my team NOW.

A team with good options like St Louis being knocked out early or better players making themselves available is why you hold off on invites to guys like Casey Cizikas.

The idea of Johnson, Fantilli, or Horvat not being good enough to take right away or eventually being pushed out by 12 better forwards is ridiculous. You take those 3 and run right now before they get impatient and make summer plans.

If Dubas thinks any of those 3 guys are below our standards based on historic WCH rosters then it's an egregious case of beggars being choosers.

People are likely extrapolating way too much into who was asked about going to this tournament immediately upon their season ending. The Columbus guys in particular, just because they hadn't been asked by the time they cleaned out their lockers doesn't mean much.

Let's see who is on the team and who refused spots before declaring a need for 57 point 30 year old Horvat. There's also no way that Horvat is seriously in the mix for the Olympics at this time. He'd be a great addition to some of Canada's recent teams since those teams have generally been shitty, even when they win. On the strong teams Canada has sent he'd be a marginal add.

I think it has to be with the fact that they rather not use C's in other positions.

In that case they already have O'Reilly and Celebrini in the team. And with Crosby (and Bedard) in the mix both Horvat and Fantilli is kinda in the loop. Horvat because he needs to be C in top 6, and Fantilli because they maybe want a more grinder-type as 4th.

Yes, they could use centers as LW/RW, but with so many players wanting to play, they will most likely look to use as much players in their favoured spot as possible.

That has to be the case. Because skillwise Horvat (it could be that they just chose O'Reilly over him) and Fantilli should be in the squad already. Johnson I guess is in already.

X - Crosby/Horvat - Konecny
Lafreniere - O'Reilly - Bedard
Johnson - Celebrini - Guenther
X - Fantilli - X

Would be my guess

Yeah, names that leak out now is just kind of random. I don’t think we know the behind the scenes process of making a team like this.

They’re going to get the best players they think they can get.

Yeah they presumably are aware that Fantilli or Johnson would be a good addition. I don't think it's necessarily damning that Fantilli and Johnson hadn't been asked by mid day Friday after their team was only eliminated Wednesday night. If they haven't been asked yet then that is likely a problem, but it doesn't seem especially strange that Hockey Canada may have waited until they had their media availability.

The only case I can remember where Hockey Canada didn't just go after the best players was one year where they didn't go after Weber because the insurance cost on his huge contract was so high.

I'll add something unrelated that I was unaware of until this week. As it pertains to St. Louis players, The Athletic said that Kyrou was not in London for the Hockey Canada award ceremony in 2018. Unless he got up to something very unseemly in a group chat I'd have to think that not being in the same city as the event precludes him from any wrongdoing in that situation.

Who needs those guys when you can have Joseph along with McBain and Bunting c;

I'd prefer Horvat over Kadri...better defensively and more disiplined. but Kadri and Weegar are solid adds,

Hoping McDavid wills the Oilers on to rd, 2. really want to see Byfield on this team.

Who is confirmed so far?

Celebrini, Konecny, O'Reilly, Sanheim, Montour? Is that the 5?

I believe Weeger confirmed yesterday to make it 6 confrms. Kadri would be #7.

other than Celebrini, that's a pretty experienced group. I'd prefer the rest of the team made up of players ages 19-24 and challenging for Olympic team spots over the next 5 years.
