WC: Team Canada 2025

Perreault I think can if he chooses since he was born in Canada . He has always played with the US program but he could play for Canada ...same as Brady Tkachuk could and like the dman that came in late for Canada at the 4 Nations to play...Harley ? ....dual citizenship .

I don't think it is because of not being eligible .....but I could be wrong .
You ARE wrong. The dude is an American and has played for the US at IIHF sanctioned events. Literally just played and won his 2nd gold for the US at the World Juniors. He is not waiting 4 years to switch to a NT that hes never been interested in playing for ever.

So Westhead had a story about the 2018 trial (starting next Tuesday) and this line was included:

Courtroom primer: 10 questions to consider as trial looms for former World Junior players | TSN

"While Hockey Canada initially said that all players from the 2018 team would remain suspended and would be ineligible to play, coach, officiate, or volunteer with Hockey Canada-sanctioned programs until the appeal process was concluded, the organization later reversed course and has allowed players who have not been criminally charged to represent Canada."

Can anyone cite a player other than Makar who has played for Canada since that "suspension" went into effect?

Nope. Only Makar has.

That is insane and wrong. If I was being tarred unjustly by that 2018 brush, I'd sue H.C. to clear my name.
Only in Canada.

LOL. Sue for what? missing out on a few World Hockey Championship tournaments? The vast majority of Canadian pro players would welcome that ban. Suzuki probably lobbied Hockey Canada, saying "look, I know I was on the 2019 team, but can I be part of that 2018 team ban? That sounds real nice to get out of that."

I expect Suzuki to be there if Montreal is eliminated. He will want to try and push for an Olympic spot and being on the World Championship squad will increase his odds.
Suzuki said last year that he would go to the 2025 World championship if he had the opportunity, so I don't understand people who say he will refuse. If Montreal is eliminated, then the probability of Suzuki's participation in the World championship is 90%.

All he has done is refuse so far. Words are empty. Hopefully he follows through if given the opportunity this time.

Suzuki morally suspended himself clearly. Conscientious objector. As far as who actually didn't go to the tournament due to the "suspensions" it's maybe guys like Kyrou, Thomas, Batherson. Odds are decent that they may have refused anyway but who knows. Batherson played at the 2022 world championship before the all the Hockey Canada self-flagellation.

As an aside, I could see some lawsuits coming out of this assuming acquittals, which I think is the most likely outcome based on what has been revealed publicly. Obviously if the players are found guilty it's a different matter, and based on what is revealed there were other players there for whatever happened other than players who are charged. Makar was an obvious case of not being there in any capacity since he didn't attend the event. Hockey Canada would not be the target of lawsuits though.

As far as this team, should be some more players revealed soon. If Konecny, Sanheim, and Celebrini are already in then that's a nice start and already provides a reason to watch.

Its Funny year by year Team USA "Journalist " always come out with names before you listen anything about who will show up for team Canada, maybe HC is telling the players , dont say anything

Hopefully Fantilli and Celebrini play prominent roles. After seeing their seasons this year, it’s embarrassing they were sent home last year to make way for luminaries like Jack McBain and Michael Bunting
It was bad at the time. I get that the GM of the team wants to win, but someone at the organizational level needs to take the bigger view of things. The goal of this event is not just to win, it is to develop players who can help win bigger tournaments too. In Fantilli's case he was already good enough and had played the year before.

Here is a quote from Bedard regarding this tournament:

Bedard said he’s not sure yet if he’ll play for Canada in the IIHF World Championship, which will be May 9-25 in Sweden and Denmark.

“I think that’s something that will come out pretty soon,” Bedard said. “Still kind of deciding on that, but we’ll see here in the next few days.”

Bedard reiterates 'love' for playing with rebuilding Blackhawks | NHL.com

Another article on The Athletic had Bedard talking about the advantages of such a long summer to work on weaknesses, in his case speed and acceleration. He cited MacKinnon as a guy who keeps finding ways to improve and get faster.

Good one. LOL.

If Bedard doesn't go, I will lose respect for him - my loss of respect for him will likely keep him up at night.

If LAF doesn't go, I'd lose respect for him, as well, but I have none left to lose.

It's 2 lousy weeks. After that, you have all summer to yourself.
