I think Canada can find 8 Dmen better than him quite easily.
He has next to zero shot, barring injuries. Five spots in my mind are already spoken for: Makar, Toews, Morrissey, Theodore, and Harley (yes, Harely was that impressive).

Sanheim/Parayko/Pietrangelo/Doughty/Bouchard will compete for the last three spots. Doughty is a lock in my mind with how well he played once he shook off the rust.

Obviously, there will be several experienced players in the team. Who do you think has more motivation? Drew Doughty considered the offer last year, and if Los Angeles is eliminated in the first round this year, then his arrival at this World Championships will not be a surprise, because he still wants to get into the triple gold club. For sure, Nashville will not make the playoffs, which means that there is a possibility that Marchessault, Stamkos and O'Reilly will leave, for whom this World Championships may be the last in their careers.

I would be shocked if Doughty, who endlessly skips the iihf world championships, cares about the pretty pathetic "triple gold club". He has been very clear that he cares about playing in big games though and I'm sure wants on the Olympic team. Have to think that he has good odds too.

I have great respect for Doughty, but to be honest, I do not believe that he will be accepted into the Olympic team. Winning the World Championships would be a very beautiful end to his career in the national team.

Sure, but I don't think that Doughty sees it that way. He's skipped this tournament a ton since 2009.

I wouldn't rule Doughty out heading into the Olympics either. He was good at the four nations.

Doughty isn't guaranteed a spot but I would put his odds greater than 70% of making it. Injuries could be an issue, and maybe he slows down next year - but once he shook the rust off he looked great at the Four Nations. You need to bring that experience, that demeanor, championship pedigree, to the Olympics.

Doughty has utter contempt for this tournament. Even at this stage of his career, he would see it as beneath him. He'd rather play ping pong with his pals in London.

It's not, like Doughty is a one-off. a lot of Canadian players will do their rookie year obligatory duty and then never bother with it again. Jerome Iginla was another one. I'm an A-Team player call me when there's an A tournament to play.

I remember when the Kings went from a cup contender to non- playoff team and a reporter in a locker room scrum asked Doughty if he would play at the WHC and Doughty looked at him and said ":are you serious? No." He looked at the reporter like he wanted to punch him for even suggesting such a thing,

It's rare that we get the Thomas Chabot, Ryan O'Reilly, and the Nate Mackinnon type of rink rats that if there's a hockey game to be played somewhere in the world and I am fit to play in it - then I'm there.

Don't forget, in a year Doughty will be even older, and at any moment in his career there may be a recession.

Last year, Doughty was asked if he would go to the World Championships, to which he replied that he would like to join the triple gold club and was considering participating in the tournament, but on the other hand, he had a family to whom he wanted to devote more time.

I'd like to see/read this interview.

A younger roster based on who is out of playoffs now, assuming 4 nations guys take a pass, though someone like Konecny who was on the fringe may want to go dominate to push for Olympics. Monty was there but didnt play, he may want to show off again.

McCann - Celebrini - Bedard
Kyrou - Suzuki - Thomas
Horvat - McTavish - Guenther
Neighbours - Wright - Holloway

Dobson - Montour
Ferraro - Power
Pulock - Byram
Pelech

Montambault
Hofer

I like your squad, but Kyrou and Thomas can't play for the national team yet.

I can see that as more realistic than his saying he wanted in the "triple gold club". Anyway thanks for sharing it. Doughty's play at the 2009 tournament pretty much opened the door for his Olympic invitation in 2010, but he has blown the tournament off ever since.
