If any tweets come through - they will be posted here. This will help the guys who just frequent the thread keep up to snuff.

thread title comes from that 'poet of the postmodern' Don Delillo.

This is the whole point of technology. It creates an appetite for immortality on the one hand. It threatens universal extinction on the other. Technology is lust removed from nature.

I don't agree with your evaluation, so here's mine. The main difference is that I don't think that the high salaries of Dubinsky/Umberger are deal-breakers. It either means that the asking price goes way down (making it more palatable for us), or that they retain some salary. Additionally, we actually have A LOT of cap space next year, and that's not even factoring moving out bodies like TK, Glass, Orpik, Martin or others to shed salary.

Even with moderate bumps to UFAs Cooke (who may not get a raise), Dupuis (who will get a raise, but will re-sign for less than FMV) and giving TK a qualifying offer, and re-signing Adams and Eaton at slight bumps on what they're making now (just for the sake of argument, all using my working excell spreadsheet I use for such things), we have over $7 million in cap space with a full 23 man roster.

Your numbers are off. The Penguins would have ~1.7m in cap space with those transactions.

FORWARDS
Beau Bennett ($0.900m) / Evgeni Malkin ($8.700m) / James Neal ($5.000m)

Stalberg:

I don't think they'd be interested in taking on Capt. Chest Snipe for $2M with their cap situation.

People need to wake up and realize that good teams will have 0.0 interest in Tyler Kennedy. Teams with a lot of room who really want some other player in the deal may take him as a cap dump the same way we took Niskanen. Otherwise he'll go to RFA this summer and pray to Vishnu that Ray doesn't keep him.

I imagine for Staalberg (see what I did there?) Chicago would be interested in a good D prospect like Dumoulin plus a middle pick (4th maybe). He's definitely improved as a player but it's not like he's been lighting it up / that he now commands a high price. Remember he went to Chicago as a project basically. A guy who had a hard time in Toronto that they gave up on. He's also an UFA, so giving up more than that would not be smart unless we do a sign-and-trade, in which case why not keep him if he's willing to negotiate now?

That said they've got cap issues and he figures to be a good value for them as someone with upside left that they can re-sign this summer for cheap, so don't seem them trading him to anyone necessarily.

You really have to take into account the play of Dupuis and Kunitz. If your still a "Crosby needs a winger!!!", you've been living under a rock for weeks, maybe months. Personally let's let go of hopes for a top 4 forward, because it really isnt needed. Does a team like Pittsburgh really have any holes at the moment anyways!?

Scuds back to Pittsburgh would be great if we really needed a D-man
He's a perfect fit but I have my doubts LA will sell. They actually have a need for another guy like Scuds themselves based on what I've heard and read. Who knows though. Maybe they will hit the skids and sell.

Apparently Kypreos feels we are the only suitable place for Brendan Morrow should he become available...kinda torn here, don't know that much bout BM, help me out a bit?

Let's check some teams out that are in the bottom of the conference.

Buffalo Sabres
- Vanek: No way. Too much money. 7.1M for another year. Not with our UFAs.

- Pominville: Same thing 5.3 for one more year. Can't happen.

- Ott: If Ott/Sutter ran that 3rd line it'd be ridiculous. We'd also have multi-purpose FO guys. That is HUGE. This is a guy I want to see in a Pens uni. 2.7 for one more year is do-able.

- Kaleta: 1.25 for 2 more years. Good fit?

- Hecht: Pending UFA. Good fit?

Dupuis is good, but he gets tons and tons of opportunities a game to score too and misses. IF we had a sniper sid would be putting up more numbers IMO.

Great Shot, but cant see a need for him. Bennett seems perfectly able to be a top 4 forward, so idk id want to mess with that line of malkin neal and bennett. Let someone else pickup morrow

Thanks, that's what I felt, but if TK was traded would you slide him in the top 9, if we missed out on any other forwards?

A new name I'm thinking would help is Dan Cleary. He is a UFA this Summer and at his age, Det will probably let him walk.

He isn't a top six guy anymore, but he could replace Glass or TK. He has a ton of playoff experience and a few big goals left in him I think.

I think Shero could grab him for a fourth or a fifth.

I still think you can make Pominville work.

:dunno:

How about Florida... Florida has some interesting players that could help other clubs:

- Fleischmann: 4.0 for 2 more years - probably not going anywhere.

- Versteeg: Injured

- Upshall: 3.5 for 2 more years.

- Kopecky: 3.0 for 2 more years

- Bergenheim: 2.75 for 2 more years

- Mueller: Pending RFA... someone Florida will want to keep

- Goc: 1.7 for a 4th liner basically

- Santorelli: Pending UFA.

i'm not sure that Shero would be able to pry him out of Babcock's hands. Babs loves his grinders.
