Wasnt the last rumored contract negotiation with the Rangers 37-39 over 6 years? But he wanted 7 right?
Thats huge to get something back after giving up another first. Makes me feel a little bit better about getting to finals with nothing to show for it. A little.
I think Callahan wanted $39/6 and the Rangers held firm at $36/6.

39 over 6 is 6.5 M hit yet he takes 5.8 with Tampa. Doesnt make sense. He played hard ball and lost. He could have stayed in NY where he wanted to be and made over 4 million more.

Yup, he overplayed his hand. Granted the no Florida state income tax will make the numbers closer to a wash...but can anyone really think all things being equal he'd rather be on TB then NY?

Taxes are complicated but 41 games without having to pay income tax is nice. Definitely agree that Callahan's heart is in New York, but he's probably also thinking how great its going to be to work for a legend like Stevie Y. Wish him the best, except when he's playing us.
It's not only 41 games, but the games played against the Panthers, and the games played in Nashville and Dallas...
Cheers!
