Doubtful Pittsburgh is going to retain on Rakell or Rust. Karlsson is an obvious one they will need to. But those two are already very good value right now so taking back a bad contract maybe, but using a retention slot for a team that likely will need them in future trades makes no sense.

That's my point. It just doesn't make sense for either team because the requirements are unrealistic for both sides.

Why? Rakellk's a bargan at $5million with the rising cap. 25+ goals 55+ points and equally comfortable on both wings.

For the rest of the league, sure. On Tampa fitting in $5M when goal scoring is not an issue is not a bargain. That money should go to another Defenseman, a backup goalie and making the bottom 6 not be a dumpster fire.

Rakell is far better than many of the has beens listed here. Great cap term and production. Can play either wing and PP. Dubas knows what he has and btw, he was injured last year as to his production. He may be traded but not for the ham and eggs deal many think is out there. Two ok prospects doesn't get it done. Boeser is not close to RR as to play. One dimensional slower RW who can score but tell me how many teams are really lining up for him. He is a good RW but not in Rakell's league. You think trader Jim holds on to him and lets him walk for zip? Dubas keeping him is fine. Give me a RW who can score 30 goals and play smart as hell and a AAV that gets better and better. Sign me up.

Then keep him lol Tampa doesn't particularly need Rakell and they're not going to give up their two best trade chips to get him.

Rakell had a nice year and all but that's a ridiculous proposal. TB might not even give up those two for Crosby given the state of their prospect pool.

People can legitimately criticize the proposal for TB based on need, but not on value. Who else is scoring like Rakell, with his cost-controlled cap hit, who would be remotely available?

Value wise I get Rakell has a nice contract but the odds of him producing more than one additional season at this year's production is basically zero. He's on the wrong side of 30, TB has no prospects. The one deal that is screaming out to me here is Zegras for Howard. Or maybe a prospect like Korchinski for Howard
