Proposal: TBL - PIT

Take our Howard and it is closer.

After BriseBois's comments recently, they seem to rate him.

Doesn’t make any sense for PIT to make that trade. Howard would be the main piece coming back if they are eating Rakell’s contract and taking Sheary. If Tampa wants Rakell at full value, I’d want a second and that’s it, but likely makes no sense from Tampa’s cap perspective.

We sure could use Rakell. Not sure they want to trade Howard after the season he's having
Well Rakell @ 50% definitely fetches a 1st+ or a good prospect+

So if Tampa doesn’t want to trade him then he probably goes elsewhere

The deal seems fair to me. Howard is having a good year, but he’s not some highly touted prospect I don’t think it’s an unreasonable ask.

Take out Howard and the phone call ends immediately. It would then become the dumbest trade the Pens could make.

Rakell at 50% for a 2nd and Sheary is not closer, lol.
Yeah I didn't mean just a 2nd and Sheary just for clarity. But it sounds like Howard is highly thought of so probably has a bit more value than this deal suggests (or Tampa are just hyping him up to seem that way). 2 x 2nds would be where I was thinking as a base rather than a 2nd and Howard.

You're probably paying someone a 2nd to take on Sheary's deal.

He's $850k per year when sent down so hardly a huge problem for them

St. Louis paid effectively a 2nd and 3rd to move out Hayes at 2 years and $3.5 million. I don't think Sheary at $2 million will be much cheaper. Probably a 3rd if I had to guess.

It's not really 2 million, he's pretty close to the league minimum so burying him costs us less than half that, as someone already pointed out. Larger salaries you can't bury as well.

That's not how it works

That is factually how it works. Sheary's cap hit is $2 million, and Tampa Bay can bury league minimum plus like $350k of that $2 million in the minors. That's why Sheary's cap penalty is showing up as $850k, because that is the amount above the allowable burying limit.

So in other words, 850k of his contract counts against the cap. Like I just said.

If I am missing something, you're not explaining it very well.

What's the point for PIT? If they're not getting a much better return for Raks, they should just keep him playing with Sid.
If you think this isn’t a good return for Rakell, then you’re setting yourself to be extremely underwhelmed for what he gets when he is dealt.

If a prospect of Howard’s upside and a 2nd were on the table, Dubas better accept it.

Definitely some miscommunication in this thread but let me try to help out.

Sheary's full NHL cap hit is $2M. Teams are allowed to bury players in the minors but they can only "hide" a cap hit of whatever the league minimum is ($775k) plus $375k.

2,000,000
-775,000
-375,000
=
$850,000

Sheary counts $850k towards the cap if he is buried in the minors.

Man it’s going to be tough for Sid to get a point per game this season if they trade Rakell. Should shut him down now, play Jarry , Graves to help the tank.

There would be an immediate league tanking investigation if all of those things happen haha

As long as Rust stays healthy and Crosby/Rust combo should be enough to get him to PPG pace

Rakell should absolutely be traded for max value to prepare for future
