Confirmed Signing with Link: [TBL] G Brandon Halverson signs with the Lightning (2 years, $775k AAV, two-way)

What happened? I remember him holding some promise when he was drafted by the Rangers.

The short answer would be Henrik Lundvist and Igor Shestyerkin.

For whatever reason, has begun playing better since spending a season in the German second league two years ago.

Was in net for Syracuse in their run to the AHL Eastern Conference finals last spring.

Congrats. IIRC he just couldn't establish himself in Hartford so he was let go after his ELC. It's good to see he was able to turn his career around and at least establish himself with Syracuse the last two seasons. Those are career low GAA numbers!

I was just looking at AHL goalie stats the other day and noticed he had the best numbers of anyone not affiliated with an NHL club. Never enough good goalie depth to go around, so a guy playing that well in the AHL, wasn't going long without a contract

They had nothing to do with it. Halverson was never blocked by either one. He was drafted the same year as Igor and was gone from the organization before Igor came over.

The real answer is that he shouldn't have been drafted in the 2nd round in the first place. I don't know any Ranger fans who were happy with that pick. He then went on to show why we shouldn't have drafted him in the 2nd round.

Good for him that he is playing well this year and has earned himself an NHL contract. I doubt he'll ever be an NHL regular, but stranger things have happened. He wouldn't be the first goalie to struggle when they are younger and then figure it out in their late 20s.

Us (and like 20 other teams after us) wish we took Brayden Point with that pick. It would have also been wild if the Rangers drafted both Sorokin and Shesterkin that year.

Good for him to carve out a career and an NHL deal.

Like a couple Rangers goalie picks, picking Halverson so high wasn’t a popular move at the time. Not his fault.

Reports around the time were incredibly high on his ability to handle the puck, to the point he was compared to having an extra dman.

Coupled with athleticism, he seemed to have all the raw tools needed. Guess Allaire figured he could shape everything else, but it never quite worked out with NYR.
