2 mill a year is not that bad. Buried in the minors it is only a 1 mill cap hit. But when the contract at above 4mill then it is a problem

I remember when Sheary was called up, won the cup and then the next season halfway through was leading the league in pts/60 or something playing with Crosby. That was probably more points than he's ever had in a full season since, or at least close to it

I honestly think this will be good for both the Lightning and Sheary. Sure it sucks paying a guy that much to play in the AHL but we aren't in any cap crunch this year or next so we can eat the penalty. I think why it's good for them is because Sheary should be able to carry the Crunch this season and be a great veteran presence on a young team. For him he should hopefully regain his confidence and scoring touch so that if he gets a call up or next season can be an NHL contributor again.

An NTC doesn't excuse you from poor performance. If you're so bad you lose your roster spot and no team wants you for free then yeah that should go out the window.
