Can we afford to have him in the NHL right now? Like with the cap
Yes. Malkin is only on IR, so the Pens aren't using LTIR space right now. According to PuckPedia, they have $3.8 million in cap space.

They could send someone like Shea down and run with 13 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 3 goalies if they wanted to call up Blomqvist.

If they sent Jarry down, they'd have to eat a lot of his cap and would still probably have to send someone like Shea down to make room for Blomqvist.

Look, I hate Jarry as much or more than anyone, but that’s a gnarly contract to waive. Can’t we just… make him disappear some other, more cap-friendly, way?

No. And to be honest. The whole point of having a billion dollar ownership who can give dorks like Dubas 7x7 deals is the financial weight. Jarry is awful in the room, awful on the ice and a deterrent to this team every night.

Get him the f*** out of here and who cares.

What are you talking about? We can afford Blomqvist by just waiving Jarry.

This is honestly so dumb.

Successful teams put their prospects in situations to contribute to their NHL roster and succeed.

This team does not do that.
Successful teams do that when the prospects are ready.

Should Sam Poulin be up here instead of Nieto? Yeah, probably. Same with Ponomarev versus Acciari.

But McGroarty, Koivunen, Broz, and Blomqvist are exactly where they need to be at this stage of their development. I'm on board with giving them an opportunity after some deadline moves, but they should spend the majority of this year in the AHL and that has always been the case.

I’m excited for when this team actually really sucks so the prospects we talk about are actually maybe good and not a just bunch of dorks

Right, so pay to have him eliminated. Not paid to play in WBS!

The majority of the year is coming up. If Blomqvist comes up for Jarry he's probably playing at most 20 games.

The Penguins have brainwashed everyone into "successful teams do that when the prospects are ready". It's simply not true.

Good teams in today's NHL allow young players to be competitive on their rosters. Bad teams do what the Red Wings and Penguins have done the last 5 years under Sully, Hextall, and Dubas which is fill all their positions up with shitty 28 - 34 year olds like Noel Acciari who "play safe" and then blow games for you while not contributing anything offensively.

Jarry's cap hit is $5,375,000 million. The buried cap threshold is $1,150,000.

Subtract the buried cap threshold from Jarry's cap hit, and the Pens are still responsible for $4,125,000 of Jarry's cap if he is sent down. They have $3,810,492 in cap space right now. They would be over the cap by a little over $300,000. So they would have to clear additional space to recall Blomqvist.

Lol what the f*** are you talking about dude? You realize Jarry's cap is on the books right now?

They send Jarry and bring Blomqvist up they save a million dollars. Blomqvist costs 800. So they are + 300 or so.

How much cause do you have to have to be able to terminate a contract?

Like can they terminate Jarry’s cause he sucks ass.

So, uh, math has never been my strength. Miscalculated that one.

The larger point stands - development is the priority.

Yes. And we have more prospects than Blomqvist.

Development is more than just Blomqvist. Murashov or Gauthier should be in the AHL.

Like I said. If you waive Jarry or trade Ned or do whatever, you are opening up a spot for Blomqvist to play maybe 20 games in the NHL this year. Exactly what Fleury did at 19.

And Fleury went to the AHL at 20 and even at the start of 21. Again, with a lot more overall games under his belt than Blomqvist has played.

I don't want Blomqvist playing in front of a team as inconsistent as this one.

It's a philosophical difference. I want Blomqvist up next year when the organization is actually trying to contend from top to bottom instead of purposefully treading water.

Ultimately, it's the players on the ice who win or lose

But the people we having picking those players... Woof

MAF was only kept out of NHL for money reasons. Bad example. Nothing to do with player development.

Forcing players down because worse players are up will never be a vibe I appreciate.

Some people on this board have gotten so used to sucking ass that they forgot that a good goalie actually helps cover over the flaws of the team as opposed to exacerbating them. Jarry sucks ass. You play Tampa with 3 AHL lines, double them up in shots and you lose 4-2. He SUCKS ASS
we haven't forgot. we just don't want to be picking the 13-18 range forever. you must suck to get great players. by being middle of the pack, we will be stuck there for the next 40 years.

You can just ignore DP's posts.

I appreciate DP's conviction to the bit.

We are picking 9th right now. Is that any better?

You can't just fire people without cause, Michael. Do you have cause?

only if you want to never win the cup again for 40 years

I guess my point is more so that the goal for the team right now is to fluke into an ECF.

And if you want to pretend that isn't Dubas' goal you're f***ing kidding yourself. It's been reported this team makes little money if they aren't in the playoffs for at least 2 rounds.

But dorks will ignore that.

Good news is, is that this team has about a 3% chance to make the playoffs last time I looked.

Hopefully by the time the deadline rolls around that number is closer to 0 so our braindead front office doesn’t try to do something extremely dumb.
