He played in all three preseason games, Falcons fans forced themselves to watch it, coaches go through that prep, and the reward is a conditional 6th round pick, while leaving $3.2m in dead cap.

Abolish preseason football.

The absolute worst form of pre season in any sport. Would not attend for free.

Entire preseason for a 6th, a roster spot, and something like $1.7 in cap room.

Well, hope he takes a tour of LA. From a personal perspective, he would definitely not believe this was possible a few years ago.

Actually, the degradation of Carson Wentz is directly responsible. If Wentz doesn't toss unwarranted picks in the season opener against Washington in 2020, Washington doesn't make the playoffs.

i got free tickets to the chargers-hawks game a few weeks ago and figured i'd go since i had no plans

i left at halftime. absolute snoozefest
It doesn't even really resemble the actual game. I went to Penguins/Sens pre season hockey last fall and while it is not playoff intensity and there is a mix of players... the stars were all dressed and play the full game. You see teams working on the PK and PP.

The NFL teams are really doing it because they are told they have to as a money maker...There is perhaps the odd roster spot won and lost but not many.

I tried to watch some Saints pre season to see the Rattler but it's so meaningless playing against the players 70-90 on the roster.

I have Commanders season tickets and I just bailed on the only game because it was right after the arsenal women's game at Audi.

good luck to Taylor

Price from going with Ridder as their starter in 2023. Signed a veteran as the backup. Now both are no longer with the team that they spent training camp and pre season with.

After last season, and after seeing QB performance, that's a price I'll gladly pay.

Barring a restructure, it's $25 mill for the 2 remaining year of the $50 mill SB at $12.5 mill per year, plus he is due a $10 mill roster bonus for 2026 which becomes guaranteed in March 2025, so that would then bring him to $35 mill in dead money if cut after 2 seasons.

He's still in the NFL? 🤯 Good for him but wow
Why be surprised he's still in the NFL? He sustained a winning record as a starter in Washington (24 starts).. when was the last time, ANY Washington Qb did that?

And he was foolishly pulled for a then terrible Carson Wentz. Heinicke has never been in a good spot in the NFL, my opinion. But has done well, with his meager circumstances and limited trust he's been given. He's obviously not Montana, but he is better than a proverbial "solid backup".

Give him a cool 70s pornstache and he's Gardner Minshew. (I mean that in the best way possible.)

From what I've seen, while he hasn't started with an elite offense, he has been given chances to display how good he can be on multiple occasions. I haven't seen "better than solid backup" at all. I'd go with "serviceable backup"

He got the start last year a few games and wasn't able to definitively seize the position.

He's a bit of a thrill ride. Definitely can make some exciting plays, but he is a noodle-armed guy who wants to play like Brett Favre.
I definitely liked some of the memories he brought during his time in Washington, but his level of play isn't that much different from other backups.

I think your description of Heinicke's style is fair. But the idea that he's (only) on par with average backups, was disproven by his winning record as a starter in Washington.

My opinion, very few starting NFL Qbs could've sustained a winning record under Riverjoke Ron.. much less, average backups. I think what Heinicke did in Washington showed his full potential. But that said, I do see that he's probably never going to be viewed by the league (& mockingbird fans) as more than a journeyman backup. /peace

In a league with Malik Willis, Mitchell Trubisky, 37yo Andy Dalton, Tyson Bagent, Cooper Rush, Mac Jones, Stetson Bennett, Nick Mullins among others holding backup spots, you could do a lot worse at QB2 than Heinicke. He's serviceable there's no doubt. I'd definitely say he's an above average backup.

It's more of a case where I remember him with the Panthers and then he followed Riveria to Washington and didn't hear from him since, 2022? Figured he fell out of the league.

Edit: I forgot he was a Falcon last year.
