I don't think there has ever been one. I remember looking it up a while ago and my sole purpose for doing it was to see if they had the nerve to give McDavid that Hart if he scored 100+ points and they still missed the playoffs.

A non-playoff team goalie (Bobrovsky in 2013) has actually won the Vezina, but I don't believe a non-playoff team player has ever won the Hart the year he missed the playoffs. Unless I skipped over.

Anson Carter just said on the intermission that he would give it to Anze Kopitar, then Keith Jones said he'd give it to Taylor Hall.

I googled it, apparently the last non-playoff guy to win a Hart was Mario in the late '80's (and the Pens only missed by a point, not eighteen)...so yeah, pretty rare :P
 
Kopitar had a huge gap offensively, but he also had Drew Doughty on his team. I think Hall had less around him to work with than the other two did, and when the team needed him most down the stretch he was incredible, where MacKinnon cooled off until that game against St. Louis that clinched the playoffs for them.

I probably overlooked that one by assuming that the Pens made the playoffs that year. I forgot they had some pretty terrible teams in the years between Mario being there and Jagr being drafted.

And this just goes back to what I was saying last night. Sharks fans also think that Jones had no chance on any of those goals last night and are creating phantom screens where there weren’t any. When you don’t have a legend in goal or a tender that’s even better than average, which Nabokov in his overall career wasn’t, you really don’t have high standards for netminding. You become easy to please and guys like Jones look more than ordinary, Stalock looks average and Nabokov and Niemi become elite. Nabokov shouldn’t have even been a top 3 Vezina finalist in 2008, let alone beat Marty out for it.

Only 4 times ever. The other three was back in the pre-helmet days.

80s with MARIO. Twice in the 50s and once in the 40s.

Oiler fans have no leg to stand on here. McDavid was never winning this. Flyer fans at least have a case.
 
They have been giving this award out since the 20s. Oiler fans are off their rockers. Malkin and Kuckarov would win it before McDavid did.

It is literally almost never voted for the way they want it voted for.
 
Teams actually missed the playoffs back in the 40's and 50's?:laugh:

There ain't a whole lot to be excited about in Edmonton right now. No playoffs, took a step back this year, Chiarelli is still the GM there, Loser Todd is still the head coach there for at least part of another season. THEIR PETS HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!

Mario scored 30 more points then Wayne one year and still lost the Hart so this won’t efen be close to the biggest point difference.

Oiler fans want to completely change the award for McDavid. The “Sorty McJesus plays for a garbage franchise” award.

Who is Kuckarov? :P

Seriously though, McDavid just won the Hart last year and will likely win it multiple times in his career. Any Oilers fans that butthurt over him not getting nominated really need to relax.
 
If this past season by Hall wasn’t a Hart worthy performance, then I don’t really know what it would take to actually win the award. Not taking anything away from NM and AK, but we all just watched what Hall did and it was ridiculous. There is honestly zero doubt in my mind that he’s the MVP.

I don’t have the benefit of having watched the teams’s first 12 seasons but Hall’s performance this year was hands down the most impressive I’ve personally ever seen from a Devil. This is obviously taking all factors into consideration (roster, performance of teammates, etc.). And even if you want to argue that it’s not, the fact that it’s up for discussion for best season along with names like Stevens, Brodeur, Elias, that says it all right there. Hall was absolutely magic this year. He truly deserves it.

Kopitar is also one of the best defensive forwards also so I can personally see an argument for him. It is close IMO between these three and I think McDavid should have been there as well.
 
McDavid did not deserve to be there.. even though he was good his team did not make the playoffs. And you have to make the playoffs for it pretty much
 
I think our "MVP" chants actually helped. I think it helped put the seed into the heads of the voters. Just curious... did Kopitar or McKinnon get that kind of fan support?

In my opinion: The thing that sets Hall apart from the other 2 is his torrid second half. He had that one crazy point streak, cooled off for a few games and then finished off with another point streak. Normally, injuries hurt players who could be up for awards. Hall’s injury was short enough not to hurt him and helped prove the Devils were abysmal when he was out of the lineup.
