Yeah the OP has clearly been watching very closely.

This just in Canada's outrageous all star team has about 21 guys that are 'killing it'.

Hall looks great but so does the rest of the team the competition is pretty brutal compared to the talent level on canada.

Yes but that's what makes what he's doing all the more impressive, hall's out scoring everybody on this outrageous Canadian all star team, as you put it. Hall is playing against the same players his teammates are, and hall is outscoring all of them.

I'm sorry to do this edmonton fans, but didn't Rick Nash have a big tournament like Hall is at about the same time in his career? International play is a lot different than the NHL. Big boys that can skate like Hall and Nash can do damage at these tourneys as we've seen. Kid just has to stay healthy and continue to do it at the NHL level like he has done and we know he can do.

Why do people come out of the woodwork to put a damper on any positive thread about an Oiler? If it was Ennis, or Toffoli, tearing it up it'd be all good vibes in here.

Too bad RNH wasn't playing in the WHC because this thread would haven't been "RNH is murdering it!" :)

Whenever Crosby plays well with anybody in these tournaments, a million threads go up to trade for that player. Brace yourself for all the Hall to Pens threads :P

Hall would be a MAJOR upgrade when it comes to wingers that Crosby has played with on the Pens.

Hey and really this is the show case for it... who knows after the umpteenth playoff defeat maybe this is what it takes JR to move core pieces on D to shore up the wing... and EDM will never be in a better spot forward wise probably... now would be the best time really for both clubs to make a blockbuster

Proposals for the proposal forum... but a Letang/Maattaa type thing would help both teams so much

I hesitate because I want to see what McD and Hall can do...and yet defence is a priority if we want improvements...I'd rather test the FA market first anyways.

No one is doubting Taylor Hall's elite talent. What we're doubting is his ability to go a full season without breaking his porcelain physique. His speed is a treat to watch.

The Nash comparison is very appropriate, for several reasons. Both Hall and Nash are strong, powerful skaters whose greatest weakness is their playmaking. There is no subtlety to either guy's game ... they are at their best when the situation requires them to fly around the opponent to create a scoring chance off the rush, and at their worst in tight corners when they have to do something effective with the puck. Just watch either of them try to make a backhand pass. Not happening.

After several seasons struggling to become an elite scorer, Nash learned to become a dominant two-way player, in large part due to his involvement with the Canadian Olympic team. He was an absolute beast on the checking line in both Vancouver and Sochi.

Taylor Hall is coming to a similar point in his career that Nash was when he figured out the 200-foot game. Hall is never going to put up much more than 70-80 points (although having McDavid might help with that) and the major concern with him is his lack of defensive acumen. If he is going to take his game to the next level, he'd be well-advised to follow in Nash's footsteps and become a relentless two-way player. He certainly has the speed and size to do it.

Could you imagine Hall and Nash flying around the ice killing penalties for Canada in the 2018 Olympics? Scary.

Because Ennis and Toffoli aren't established elite NHLers? What Hall is doing is fairly impressive, but also not a lot more than expected of someone of his calibre. Has nothing to do with him being an Oiler and everything to do with him being a top 3 LW in the NHL.

Hall is a very good play maker. His assist totals are more impressive than his goal totals.

The NHL awards up to 2 assists for every goal, so all else equal you'd fully expect Hall to have more Assists than Goals. But if you ever watched the Oilers PP struggle, it was when Hall tried to make plays with it on the half-wall. He is not a playmaker. Eberle and RNH are.

Well his assist/goal ratio is higher than the NHL average, but I don't watch the Oilers enough to comment on how he gets those assists. Some players even get quite a few just off of creating rebounds.

Well he's not the playmaker that Eberle and RNH are, but it's definitely not a weakness in his game.

He still gets those rebound assists but he has improved his passing considerably since his rookie season. I'd say that's the main reason he has been one of the highest scoring wingers the past few seasons.
