am wondering about his next contract ,if he doesnt re-sign with leaf, as im interested in redwings signing older star ufa vets to short term contracts instead of commiting huge long term coin to guys like rant and marner . ide like jt around to mentor kasper(c) n dannyson(c) just like yzerman n 'the profesor' mentored the euro twins in the old scotty bowman hockey school

how bout blowing 13 mil x 8 on marner and getting larkin/seider/raymond pissed off because they took team friendly deals , thatll work better right ? while worrying for 8 years that marns runs outta gas in 4 years or gets injury prone , or find that he was benefitting from playing with mathews who was taking the heat off him allowing marns time n space to operate in

I appreciate that you are trying to justify making a bad move by pointing out that it's better than making a worse move...

... Nevermind that Detroit can't sign Marner to 8 years unless they traded for him.

i see it just like yzerman n lirinov taught the twins . i want proven elite players around teaching kids just like kanes turned the detroit powerplay into a menace . if tavares gets to ufa ive got an offer on table right at top of my list .

Paying Larionov $1.15M in 01-02 to be a leader and mentor is definitely comparable to throwing $9M/year at Tavares lol.

I've said this for a while now... If the Leafs let go Tavares, they are going to miss him big time! Their fan base has been way to hard on him while the coach uses him in all situations that frees up Mathews offensively.

I feel Tavares will leave some money on the Table (again) to stay. He's already earned $113M in his career so far. Both Marner and Tavares are staying. Book it

...depending on how much of a "bargain", the NHLPA might have something to say...
 
Been lots of rumours that Tavares wants to stay in Toronto and will give a discount to do so. Rumors have it around 7 mil AAV with defered money. Leafs are more likely to let Marner walk than Tavares after another one and done playoffs.
