Speculation: Tavares landing spot?

I'm just praying SJ doesn't go after Tavares or Marner. I want our playoff reputation to be different in the future, thank you.

My personal opinion: Marner and Tavares will both sign in Carolina, as both will find that team as the best shot at a Stanley Cup. Marner will either get a 7x14 or an 8x13 (sign-and-trade) and Tavares will take a high-dollar, 1 year contract at $11-12M.

Barring a trade to aquire a 2C, Utah could be in the market. Worth the risk if the term is short.

Tavares likely wants to go to a contender though.

Not too sure the Leafs should waste money on this guy, but (imo) he’s staying in TO. Likely a 5 mil x 5 year deal. Treliving will stretch out the term, like he did with Tanev, to reduce the yearly cap cost.

It's not the right time for the Isles to make a splash like that IMO but I do hope they mend the bridge at some point. Would suck never being able to bring back one of their GOATs. I feel like everyone should have been able to move on by now.
Not only has that bridge been burned, the entire area around it has been leveled. I’m sure some fans would welcome him back, but I don’t think fans outside of Isles fans understand just how hated he is on the Island. The guy left in his prime after stringing the team along which resulted in the team getting nothing for him. The way he left has ruined any chance of him being seen or recognized as an Islander legend. While Butch Goring absolutely deserved to have his number 91 retired, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that that happened right after Tavares left. The team and fan base has essentially erased him from Islander memory. MAYBE if he came back and won a Cup things would be different, but it will never be the same as if he were an Islander for life. He’s pretty much ruined any kind of legacy he could’ve had, doubly so if he doesn’t win a Cup in Toronto or wherever else he goes.

Ha, guy just scored 38 goals. Y'all are like 2 year 5 million a year seems fair.
He also just got 3 goals and 0 assists in his last 11 playoff games.

Good for a 23 goal pace over 82 games.

He did this while playing with Patches (3 goals/5 assists in 8 games) and Nylander (6 goals/9 assists 13 games).

He looked cooked last year, this year he looks to have a rejuvenation and then completely runs out of steam or in actuality he never stopped being cooked, it's just not that hard to feast on bottom feeders with so many offensive weapons on the Leafs.

The 38 goal thing seems awesome until you look at his playoff stats, 3 fantastic games, 1 good game and 9 nothing/terrible games. Basically like his season, feast on a meh team like Ottawa dealing with terrible goaltending, do the same for 1 game vs Bob when he is awful and then totally disappear. Domi had the same number of points and he's not even earning 4 mill.

I'm guessing he sticks with Toronto at 4 year about 6 mill/ Would I be surprised if he gets more with the Leafs? Nope. He'll want to retire there with the whole Toronto boy thing.

Not too much to add to this. He lied through his teeth so the Isles got nothing in return for him. The team did nothing while he was here(whether thats his fault or the organization for not putting a better team on the ice, or both.) He was robotic, emotionless, and showed NO passion at all, ever. I don't think there's many Isles fans who have a warm spot in thier heart for this guy. We moved on long ago. Let him stay on Toronto.

I wouldn't want him back on a league minimum deal.

Tavares will certainly have options, and at more than 5M/yr. Remains to be seen whether his desire to bring up his kids in Toronto outweighs the ambivalence, if not outright hatred, of a large segment of Leaf's fans. I think he might want to get out of Dodge.

My team, the Wild could certainly use a P/PG C who is excellent on the dot. I would imagine centering Kaprizov and/or Boldy might be appealing. I think he's a way better option than Brock Nelson.

“I’m not trying to sound dramatic — that’s just actually what happened. I just sort of …. lost it, you know? I collapsed onto the couch that we have out near the pool. And I just started lying there, becoming more and more overwhelmed. Not even thinking, really, but more like … whatever comes after thinking. I was panicked. I felt frozen.”

Marner signing with Carolina after refusing a trade that could have brought Rantanen to the Leafs would be something else.

IMO he can easily get more than Stammer's 4*8M from last summer. There are so many teams looking for a center so TOR fans thinking he'll re-sign for 4-5M is silly.

All these teams could use JT:

BOS
CAL
COL
FLA if Bennett leaves
LAK
MIN
StL
TB
VAN
WPG

Doubt he leaves. Could see him retiring if leafs don’t want him back.

I personally have but I can assure you that A TON of islander fans are still quite angry.

I think he didn't handle his exit with the most grace necessarily... but JT had Garth Snow, Charles Wang, Jack Capuano, terrible line mates, awful arena for the majority of his career... hard to blame him for leaving. Just wish he had been more honest with ownership about his intentions.
