Sitting at a desk.
It hasn’t been discussed much, but JT has looked much better this season.

Last night, he had some tough zone starts and still came out as the best Leaf. On top of the fancy stats, his traditional stats show he is leading the team in production as well, despite considerably less ice time.

5pts on 8 goals by the team.

If JT can keep up this level of play both offensively and defensively, I think it would be a good redemption story for the captain after a very forgettable 2020.

yeah, he's off to a great start. his decline will be inevitable at some point in his contract, but with the way he's playing out there, it looks like it's at least a few seasons away. even in the latter few years of his deal, I can see him being a net-neutral or slight net-positive player.

I think in 2 seasons, he will be transitioned to the wing which will lessen the impact of his decline. I think he can be a very useful top 6 wing as he ages.

The bar was obviously set high with his first season as a Leaf. He played the full season and set a career high in points. Injury caused a bit of a setback for last season. He'll be effective when he's healthy.

Hes been great; should end up with numbers similar to his debut season with the Leafs. Nice to show last season was definitely more about his injury impacting his scoring than any major decline

If he and Nylander keep playing. The way they do they'll draw away the top defenders from Mattbews/Marner opening things up for them

He's been great both games so far. Not particularly surprising, he was fantastic in the play-ins as well, though not rewarded as much on the scoresheet. He had a lot of extra stress and some nagging injuries last year that held him back for a lot of the season. It was disappointing for an 11m player to say the least, but now that all of that is in his rearview mirror, he's back to dominating.

Encouraging that Tavares, nylander and Matthews all seem to be poised for big years. Now is we could just get Reilly, marner and Anderson going we’d be in business

Lets give him at least 10 games to make a thread. He is a streaky player and as much as I want a redemption I'm afraid we will a Trade JT thread soon than later this season.

I mean, he was pretty good last season too. I think people saw a slight drop off in play and thought he was declining but I bet he has 3/4 elite years left.

Strange to see Keefe underplaying him but in limited utilization he’s gotten his whirling dervish Sidney Crosby style grind game back. Also has been putting up points and skating well so no complaints. I think he’s looked better this season than at any time last season. Just from a shift to shift POV.
