Richards as a top 6 may be a bad idea but if it has to happen, it is more beneficial that the faster player (Carter) be on the wing. Teams tend to defend the centre of the ice so fast wings will have an advantage and a bit more room to make a play. The two wings can chase pucks and forecheck while Richards can just hang back and be in position when it comes time to backcheck. Brown can skate, put him on LW so he can keep up with Carter.

Richards is a liability on Defense, I still fail to see how he gets out of the fourth line.
There is a reason Sutter put him there, and has left him there. I even can see that, and I love Mike Richards. He is one of my favorite players all time.
Rooting for the guy, seriously, But he is just not a productive player at this juncture.
