I don't typically say "this will never happen" unless it's so outlandish, it defies all logic. [Or, it's every we should get rid of the cap type idea that I see get lobbed.] Trust me when I say "none of those guys will be top-2 defensemen in the NHL."

I'm not sold on any of them being top-4 either. I think Loof is going to underperform [I won't be surprised if he never makes the jump], Gaudet will do great to make it to the NHL [I'd bet on Tyson Galloway over him, and Galloway has the same 6/7 ceiling as Tyler Tucker], Buchinger is going to need work to have a shot [think Walman], and Koromylsov will never make the jump. I'd put the over/under on top-4 defensemen out of that group at 0.5 and bet the under.

If you want top-4 defensemen, they're going to have to come from trading some of the forwards we've got or through future drafts, or in the case of Perunovich you're going to have to accept his offensive potential comes with poor defensive play.

I don't have a crystal ball, but:
1. Loof I expect to become 3rd pairing guy who has chance to play up in lineup. Seems to have good mobility and a mean streak. Limited skill but so did Edmundson. And as Swede playing in Finland as teenager, that tells me he won't have issue relocating over here. Not a sure thing, but when you have teenager playing well against men in solid league that is good sign.
2. Gaudet I think you are sleeping on. He has good size and skill and is playing up in lineup on one of top teams in CHL. To compare him to guy like Galloway who makes Miko look skilled is nonsensical to me. As a 18 year old in his first camp he more than held his own. And has had great year in Q. All in all, he may be our best d prospect.
3. Buchinger has excellent mobility and has taken major step forward this year. He was young for draft class too. He is a few years away and may never make it, but currently he projects as top 4 guy if he continues on this arc.
4. Koro may never come over, but he is dressing on best team in KHL at 19. Has good size. I've never seen him play, but lots of folks thought he was steal and has best upside of any of these guys.

Do i think we should draft d with 1 of our 1sts this year? yes, i think that would be advisable. none of our d are likely as talented as top few guys on d in this year's draft and that would greatly increase our chances of producing top 4 and even top pair d.
