I just hope Leddy returns so we I don't have to watch a D core of Mikkola, Tucker, Rosen, and Santini. I'd even take perunovich half injured back into the lineup
I don't mind Mikkola, Tucker, and Rosen. Santini looks like a fish out of water tho.

Santini is fine, but only when the other D-men are NHL-caliber.
Tucker has looked good so far, Santini is okay for a 3rd shifter, Rosen has played very well lately, and has an upside of maybe a regular NHL #4 D-man. The problem is having your #1 degrade into a 3rd pairing level player, having your small offence-only Top4 D-man slow down, and fall apart, and when you have your new #1 have a bad game, with your only reasonably high-level defensive prospect out for the season, and your high-priced veteran playoff-run trade acquisition out for a long period, as well. Rosen, Santini, Tucker, Mikkola, and Faulk is not going to be competitive against the better NHL teams, ESPECIALLY when Faulk is having one of his rare poorly-played games. Parayko had an abysmal game, like most of his games lately. What a mistake it was to let Pietrangelo walk, before really knowing that Parayko had reached #1 level. And The Blues had bad luck with Perunovich, and gave up a bunch of high draft choices to get O'Reilly and Schenn. But they'd not have won The Cup without them. So, we just have to hope Army can draft well, and we can develop a few top-level defensemen, hope that Perunovich can still develop well, and that Army can make a Buchnevichlike steal for a young D-man with some of the draft capital we get back from trading Tarsenko and others.

Rosen looks like a chicken with his head cut off all of a sudden. Thomas made some terrible plays. The Schenn/Saad/Barby line has gone quiet these last 3ish games.

Oh and dear lord Faulk and Parayko showing they cannot hold this team together on D.

Good game by Griess overall though.

Calgary should be beating us, but we looked fine for 45-50 minutes with a destroyed team. Neighbours got a goal which is nice but I want to know why he was so close to the boards when he went to get the puck. Not sure if that's the strategy for the players, but I'd prefer him to be in the slot or crashing the net on plays like that, but still nice to see his shot.

Tough game. Played with them most of the night but a few costly turnovers did us in.

As an aside, if I was an NHL goalie and Saad was beating down on me on a breakaway, I would just lay down on the goal line. I swear he tries to go 5 hole every time. It’s worked quite a few times though so I can’t blame him but I have to imagine the word is out at this point.

Saad is the guy that always throws rock in rock, paper, scissors and wins because everyone else doesn't believe he's willing to throw it out 15 times in a row.

What's their goalie's name, then ? It sounds different every time J.K. mentions him. Is it Pledar? Pladar, Blowdar? At almost 80 years old, it's hard to follow the entire NHL and AHL rosters all 32 NHL teams, plus their collegiate prospects. Back when I was a kid, and The NHL had only 6 teams, I knew ALL the players on each of those teams, plus all the players in The Western League (where we had a team in The Western (pro) League, AHL, IHL (high minor Pro League, USHL(Pro), EHL, CHL, and also followed the 3 major Junior leagues, plus The Manitoba Junior Hockey League, and knew some teams in The Saskatchewan and Alberta provincial Junior A leagues as well.

I see now that it is Vladar (Bulgarian name?).

It's a Czech name, Vladař

Well, it's tough to beat a team back to back. Flames deserved to win this one, but if not for a few ill-timed mistakes (and out guys converting more of their chances) we could have easily stolen a point.

Oh and dear lord Faulk and Parayko showing they cannot hold this team together on D.
I think we all agree that neither are Norris-caliber D men and that is what it would take to hold the active roster together on D right now.

Mikkola is the only guy in the #3-#6 group with any proof of concept as a top 4 D man. I think he's a low-end top 4 D on his best days and he's more often a bottom pair guy. He has as close to 'zero puck skills' as NHLers get, so he is a pure defensive specialist.

Rosen is a soon-to-turn 29 year old with 64 games of NHL experience. He's been effective in a sheltered role, but there is good reason that he's only hit the 16+ minute mark 8 times this season. I love what he brings to the table as a league minimum 7th D and I think he's earned a real chance at being an every day bottom pair guy. But he's just not a top 4 D man.

Santini is an AHL D man. He's played 9 NHL games and 157 AHL games in the 3+ seasons since the Blues won the Cup in 2019.

Tucker is developing nicely for a 7th round pick in his D+5 season. He's looking like he could have a legit NHL future and doesn't look completely outmatched out there. But he's played 7 NHL games and he's not an NHL guy yet. Zero shame in that.

On top of the injuries to the D group, we're also missing our shutdown center from a forward group that is already not great defensively. You need legit Norris guys for them to be able to hold the team D together, especially since they play on the same side and you can't rely on pairing them up and matching up against the opposition's best.
