Assuming the Canes don't come back tonight, they'll have 33 points with 48 games left to play.

92 points would give them a 50/50 chance at the playoffs. To finish with 92 points, they'll need to finish 26-15-7.

Anyone with any goddamned sense knows that this team is incapable of that pace.

So. Does the tank begin in earnest after the Whaler embarrassment tomorrow night?

I am on board with the tank. I will still watch all the games and pull for the canes to win (except tomorrow night - don’t like the Wailers night thing but that’s a different topic).

I think with a successful tank we could be decent next year and good the year after. With another game breaking forward to add to Aho and Svech (and Necas to a lesser degree) I think we may have enough high end forward talent.

We have the following pieces to deal at the deadline

- Ferland if it’s looking like he is not going to sign (potentially a first)
- Faulk and/ or Hamilton (first and a prospect)
- Rask should be up for grabs (minimal if any value)
- Williams (could be worth more than you’d think at the deadline)

Make a big splash in free agency
Package some of the deadline returns for an established top 6 forward in the offseason (money/ cap implication trade not hockey trade)

Hoping that this tank was somehow planned by Dundon from the beginning it’s a stretch but maybe he’s playing 4D chess. Best unlikely case first day of the offseason he cleans house. Hire Vellucci or Q as coach. Pay actual money for a GM.

Step 30... profit

f***ing bring it on at this point.
Keep Rod until the end of the season because someone with no damn clue is good for the tank, but get in conversations with Q or (if he's fired) Boudreau. Rod can not be the coach of this team next season. Hell even worst case Vellucci would be a f***ing upgrade at the position. I don't care if Rod is made AGM in fact I'd prefer that, he just can't be behind the damn bench anymore after this season.
Waddell can go NOW. Offer a REAL GM or assistant GM a REAL GM position, none of this braintrust bullshit.

Out ASAP: Williams, Hamilton, Faulk, Rask (if anyone will take him)

Actually spend money this offseason, we're 20 million below the cap, and that's with over 8 million in dead money in Rask and Darling. Break out the f***ing Brinks truck and get 2 of Duchene, Stone, and Nyquist in here, we can't afford to have 1 good line + Svechnikov anymore. A real #2 center is a must, and Staal isn't one, never was one because of how Pittsburgh developed him. And we can't count on rookies until they f***ing prove it.

Use some of that money on goalie too, say Varlamov

Roll in to next season dick swinging with

Real Head Coach

Ferland - Aho - Teravainen
Svechnikov - Duchene - Stone/Nyquist
Necas - Staal I guess - Martinook
McGinn - Wallmark/Bishop - Foegele
Wallmark/Bishop, Goat

Slavin - Pesce
De Haan - Fox
Fleury - TVR

Does anyone really even care about a top pick with Waddell in charge? We had the #2 pick this year, which was one step forward, then with his trades this offseason we took 2 steps backwards. It will be more of the same with Hughes or Kakko here, especially when moron Brindy is trying his best to ruin their development by playing them in the bottom 6 with talentless grinders who should be in the AHL.

Just to give a heads up this is typically the kind of pessimism that leads to a 5 game win streak
