Tampa has a +74 goal differential

we win big and lose a lot of close games (which tbf is probably what you want out of games)

we had a pretty brutal run through end of december - january where our team's shooting went into the gutter which also coincided with our most dense schedule of the season (this included losses to Bruins, Detroit, Sharks, Blackhawks, Ducks)

Goal differential is a great indicator of success. Look at the standings right now:

Every team with a + differential is in a playoff spot.
Every non-playoff team has a - differential.
3 of 4 divisions are being led by the team with the highest differential.

Now, it isn't a shocker that the teams that score lots of goals, and give up few, are good teams. But it's still a crazy good measure of how a team's overall season has gone.

I don't think people appreciated how important McDonagh was to this team. There's a reason they were so determined to bring him back. He might be the most underrated dman in the league.

No surprise he's leading the league in +/- at +42.

Tampa has scored 8 goals 5 times this season.

They've only lost by 4 goals twice, somehow both games to Boston, and those games had 3 combined empty netters.

It's the effect of running the score a handful of times, not getting blown out basically at all and being a winning team in general.

Ryan Mcdonagh is a +40, getting him back and ditching Sergachev was genius.
