Tampa Bay Lightning at Toronto Maple Leafs: Monday game preview

The Stamkos watch, for one day, will fall mostly on Nazem Kadri.

By: Kevin McGran Sports Reporter, Published on Sun Feb 28 2016

AIR CANADA CENTRE

Puck drop: 7:30 p.m.

TV: TSN4

Radio: Sportsnet 590 The Fan

Key matchup: Nazem Kadri vs Steve Stamkos. Kadri has three goals and seven assists in 15 career games against Tampa Bay and will be assigned to watch over Stamkos, who has 16 goals and 16 assists in 27 career games against his hometown team. Kadri has the edge in faceoff wins (50.3 per cent, to Stamkos’s 49.9 per cent).

Need to know: The Lightning, who played in Boston on Sunday night, had won five straight heading into the game. Stamkos had a goal in each of those wins. Tampa Bay has also won the last five games it has played that have gone into overtime (three in OT, two in a shootout) . . . Stamkos has played in 554 NHL games, all with Tampa. He recently passed Brad Richards (552) for fourth all-time in games played with the Lightning . . . The Tampa Bay power play is 2-for-51 on the road since Dec. 6 . . . The Lightning are 26-2-3 when scoring three or more goals and 9-20-1 when scoring fewer than three.

Up next: Wednesday, at Washington, 7 p.m.

Oh Leivo was sent down as well? Then yeah I've no idea. I'd sit Marincin personally. We've had enough looks at him this season.

My first thought was maybe Martin Marincin is a healthy scratch.

Don't really understand the hate for him. He's being playing increasingly bigger minutes ever since Polak was traded and looks to be a permanent member given that he is really good.

I think Percy gets scratched.

This might be the first time Ive seen someone say Marincin is "really good". I would agree that he's been playing better than he has been, but overall I would say I have been completely unimpressed with his season, and thats coming from someone who thought he had some upside when the leafs acquired him.

He has 56CF% in 40 games. To me he our Hjarlmasson.

I didn't think Carrick would be in tonight but he appears to be. Cap friendly still has him in the minors but I guess they aren't perfect.

I honestly thought that it was a slip by Babcock and he was just listing off the new players. He did say he couldn't keep up with it all.

Since the tweet says .."Carrick... expected to make Leafs debut".. I think this is Sam's brother.., Connor..

Really liked watching him, in the AHL...

It's not his brother. I'm pretty sure they don't have any relation despite sharing a last name.

Sam's brothers are Jake, Josh and Trevor.

Trevor Carrick plays for Carolina's farm team. Josh is still in the OHL. Jake is not playing pro hockey.

This is going to be a game to see :). Lightning vs Marlies.

At the very least will be fun seeing some of the future pieces playing an NHL game. Will be a tough game, but the energy should be great
