Name 60 Dman better seriously

I'm not going to go back and list 60 dmen from 2010 but I dont need to do that to know that a 2 goal 17 point dman wasnt a legit top pairing guy or a star in the league. Great shutdown D? Yes. Star in the NHL? No.

The type of guy that cup winning teams have on their second pair? Yes. Cup winning teams have good dmen, Hammer isnt anything special by cup winning standards. Hes not any better than any of Pronger, Nieds, Beauchemin or Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall. Even the pens in 09 had Scuderi who was somewhat comparable as a player.

That was the most dominating 7 game series i've seen in my life. Tampa deserved no more than 5 games in that series.

I'm also a pens fan that was rooting for Tampa.

Scoring chances were a lot more even than people thought. Washington was undoubtedly dominating puck possession tho, it wasn't close at all. Pens were dominating all ways but I'd argue losing Bishop in the ECF'16 & SCF against the Hawks was a real backbreaker for a young team.

2022 Cup to Calgary
Tampa has a stacked roster but I feel like they're missing a big dominant forward. 2017 Penguins had Malkin. 2010 Blackhawks had Hossa, Byfuglien. 2018 Capitals had Ovechkin, also Wilson. I don't think it's an element you can completely discount.

Come playoff time I think the lack of size on their forward core will get exposed again as you need versatility in a four seven game series. Killorn is okay but hardly a force. Stamkos is probably their biggest skilled body and he's hardly a huge guy. Tampa's team would be far more worthy of the "best roster in cap era" title if they could score a Benn or Ferland for their top six, someone who can bulldoze through with skill and speed and strength.

As-is, a roster full of elite, but small guys like Kucherov, Point, Johnson, Gourde, seems bound to run into a matchup that can contain them all. As the Capitals did last year.

I agree, let's not forget Tuch being a force and against Winnipeg and Capitals.

If I was getting picky I would say the Lightning lack an ELITE ELITE forward. yes they may have one or 2 you can argue that are just under that level but they don't have that Crosby or even Patrick Kane level of player

Yea, kucherov is a top 5 player in the league. What 5 or 6 players do you see as better than him?

In general I would highly value body of work over the past 5 seaons so...

McDavid Ovechkin, Crosby, Kane, Malkin

if I considered Kucherov in that group then I would have to add people like Johnny Gaudreau or Blake Wheeler to the list

Kucherov's been the #3 scorer in the league two straight years, currently sits #3, and is a ppg player in the playoffs. It doesn't get too much more elite than that.

Hedman has dominated in the playoffs and is coming off a Norris win. You can argue there are maaaaaybe two defensemen in the league better than him. And it's a big maybe.

I said forwards, I made 0 comments about the state of Lightnings defense ;)

Even so, arguing that one of the two guys who appear to have proven to be perennial Art Ross contenders (with McDavid) is not elite... I'm just not sure what to make of that. Has anybody aside from McDavid put up more points than Kucherov over the last three years? I doubt it.

Dennis Maruk had one of the most elite seasons for a player in 1982, it doesn't make him an elite player
What

Kucherov has had two very elite seasons in a row, and is on his way to another 100 point season.

If this Tampa Bay team doesn't win the Cup, they'll definitely be remembered as one of the better teams to not win it.

I agree. When you get deep into the playoffs and sometimes early on in the playoffs the refs will just put their whistles away and let the team play. So that means that bigger teams can goon it up a bit and not get called for it. Tb just couldn't match that kind of intensity despite being able to do it to Boston and New Jersey in the series before the ECF.

It was funny we were called bullies by fans of those teams after the series were over but were bullied in the ecf. But yea I think you are right. Tb will need to do something different than what they did in that Washington series or the same result will happen.
