Frankly if we can sign Kuch for under $7M I'll be happy; under $6.5M and I'll be ecstatic. I don't see any way we resign him for $5M even on a one-year bridge deal. Quite frankly Yzerman below it by resigning Stamkos and now he's scrambling to recover.

no.1 Filpulla would need to waive for CAR for this trade to be a possibility (I think it's a 10 team list that he need to supply)

no.2 for a 45-50 point player who's on a NMC and on a 5M/yr for 2 more seasons, they will have to buy him out or give away a substantial trade chip to get rid of him

so, no I dont see this as being enough for a return

Your understanding of the cap situation is way off. Hedman's raise (3.8m) goes on the books as does Vasi's 2.5m. That's 6.3m of the 10m before we start talking extensions. Another year of a basically flat cap and we are in trouble.

You are right, I forgot about that. We definitely need to jettison him after this season.

Trust me, Tampa is all over it too. The only problem is that will Filppula waive for Carolina? Something tells me he probably wouldn't.

Why is Tampa all over this? We can use Filppula this year much more than McClement and we wouldn't give Howden away just after drafting him. We need a small amount of space for this year depending on if Kucherov gets 6 or 7.

At the expansion draft we have to protect Filppula which is fine we will expose Killorn or Sustr so one of them is likely to be selected. After the draft Filppula will have value again especially if he has a 40 point season, 1 year left at an ok caphit for a 2/3C vet is moveable. We trade him then without giving away valuable assets with him now. With him gone, Bishop, one of Sustr or Killorn and hopefully we can trade Garrison we will have more than enough capspace.

How about

Brett Howden
Valterri Filpulla

For

3rd round pick.

Tb clears cap space. Carolina gets two players that help them this season and beyond. Just has to surrender a 3rd.

I don't think there is much problem with that, but the Canes are running out of room at the inn. I'd much prefer to send McClement back to free up the position.

As I pointed out in a previous post we're already looking at exposing Killorn even if Filppula is moved/bought out before the draft (we would protect Stamkos, Callahan, the Triplets, Drouin, and Namestnikov.) If we don't get rid of Filppula by the draft we'll be forced to expose Namestnikov as well, and run the risk of losing him to Vegas and still having to move Killorn for cap reasons.

Now I agree that we don't necessarily have to move Filppula this summer, but he's the most expendable player we could move who would save us enough to resign Kucherov and a seventh defenseman (whether Nestrov or somebody else.)

I'd probably do it for the Canes pretty easily.

If Carolina doesn't mind the cap hit, absolutely.

Seems like a good deal for both sides.

a yes from me

Sounds good to me.

I like it from Carolina's end.

I do too.

Trust me, Tampa is all over it too.

This was a GREAT suggestion by the OP. How dare s/he?

Just like a Carolina fan to propose something thoughtful and maintain a modicum of politeness at the same time. What's next? Sharing barbecue with us? :sarcasm:

Yzerman upon hearing this offer.
