I don't really have an idea of what Buffalo might do this offseason, but this idea was floated on our board so I figured I might start a thread about the idea.

Tage Thompson seems like a really good match for the direction we're going in. I'm just wondering what it might take to acquire him from the Sabres. The 4th overall pick is in play, and presumably we'd have to add to that in order to get him, I'm just not sure what. I also don't really know what Buffalo's needs are, which also might be determined by the direction they choose this summer, so I don't know what to suggest myself.

Answers such as "we are not looking to move him" and/or "that's not the direction Buffalo wants to take at the moment" are obviously perfectly welcome. If that's the direction Buffalo chooses this summer, I don't think they're very good trading partners for us other than minor moves (none of which would involve Tage Thompson obviously, which means no trade to be had).

So, what say you?

How does Utah propose obtaining that many 5-on-5 goals? At ES he lead the league with 37 - that's one less than Keller and Cooley scored at ES combined. Especially at the affordability of his cap hit?

...I wonder how much influence GMBA had in drafting Tage? Trade is very unlikely. I can see the conversation change quickly when the Sabres ask about Kesselring's availability...

They moved Cozens because having him and Tate was redundant. They both want to be the trigger man on the left side of the powerplay. They aren't going to move Tage now, especially since any trade would effectively make them worse and that's not their goal

If cozens was redundant of Thompson. Or even half as good and redundant, he’d still be a Sabre!

It also had to do with how hard Cozens had regressed at center 5-on-5.

This is a textbook example of what happens when everyone sees your franchise as nothing more than prey to be feasted upon.

It's just a proposal on the mains.

In my own defense, my intention by posting this thread was just to make an inquiry about Tage Thompson's availability. @sabremike if you took it that way, that's not how I meant it, and I apologize for the misunderstanding.

The answer seems to be that he's unavailable and that's a reasonable response. A hypothetical phone call along the same lines would be something like this:

Bill Armstrong: "Hey, what's up? I was just wondering if Tage Thompson is available, and if so, what it would take. Our 4th overall pick is on the table."
Kevyn Adams: "Sorry, we're not really looking to trade him right now."
Bill Armstrong: "Okay, no worries, thanks. Have a nice day!"

So we want this good players but we don't want to give up anything all that worthwhile.

Buffalo is not rebuilding and selling off good players for futures.

Thompson and dahlin are basically unavailable.

No problem, you are one of the good people on this board.

I’ve had two thoughts about this. One is that if the team was still in Arizona, I could see them being interested in bringing a native son back since he spends his off-season time down there. The other is that this could be something to circle back tonext spring. If Buffalo fumbles away he had another season because I could totally see a couple of the more veteran guys deciding it’s time to go. Again. Some of that probably starts by the end of this summer whether they have extended Tuch or not.

TL/DR: put a pin in this one until next year.

Oh no, your team should absolutely feast upon the Sabres! You’d all be fools not to.

He shouldn’t be available, BUT who knows with this team!
