He's been our best player imho and people know that. My favorite play this year was that 2 on 5 with Cozens. Definitely a bright spot in that *not2BeNamed_Player* in that trade. His shot is definitely lethal. Whadda beauty. I've always believed in him.
I think Dahlin has been our best player, but man- Tage has certainly turned it around. His puck skills are insane. He's still a bit of an awkward skater and I question his IQ at times, but his physical abilities are top notch, and that's enticing as hell!

Anyone with eyes and brain could see Tage has special qualities. I had no idea why people were so harsh and wrote him off.
Initially he was toe-drag-Tage, he displayed little hockey sense, and he was fairly awkward (like a baby giraffe, one might say @sabremike). The mindset was "we got this for O'Reilly?".

I get the mindset, even now, but his raw tools were always enticing. The upside *potential* was significant. His hard work and patience paid off, and I think there's lots of upside left.

Edit: Updated to attribute credit to SabreMike, for the HF Sabres posters who've been unconscious for the past 3 years.

As I said on the main boards, once he dropped the toe drag he became dangerous. You knew as soon as the toe drag happened he was shooting. Now, even though you should expect he’s going to shoot instead of pass, you don’t know when that will happen.

"Baby giraffe", I like that!
Someone needs to make a meme out of it and post tons of giraffe gifs! And drop the "baby", for all I care.

Really excited to see where he ends up- if he just stays at this level, cool, but he’s improved tremendously even since the start of this year. There were still times he looked gassed or a bit disengaged to start the season, now he’s been a threat in every game as of late. He’s still adding to his arsenal as well- at his size I think he just needs experience figuring out what works best in terms of his reach and physicality. His shot is insane, now it’s just about how much he can hold the puck, how good his passing can get, if he can disrupt on the forecheck like Skinner often does. I don’t wanna set the bar too high, but if he puts the work in some 40g 40a seasons aren’t at all unrealistic. I was never as down on him as some, but goddamn, he’s turned it around much more than I thought he would. Unique player right now, dudes a weapon.

In the beginning he was always getting his head knocked off driving under overpasses.

I wrote him off at the end of last season as a guy who would never contribute much and I'm happy to admit I was wrong.

If there's one thing I can't get my head wrapped around on this season is the fact Tage is showing he is a more than capable 1st line center.
Nobody, NOBODY! saw this happening which makes it so much sweeter. Loving that Tage got this shot and seized it. Unlike when Reinhart got the chance to play C he never showed enough to carry it long term. Did he look much different at C than wing? I don't think so and I'm not knocking Reinhart. But Tage has been illuminated since the position switch and it's mind blowing that, the guy we mostly wrote off, is solid in the # 1C role.
Best thing that's happened to us this season by far and major bonus going forward.

I wouldn’t say that Tage has shown himself to be a #1C. He’s nowhere near that level, nor do I think he ever will be. He’s at best a 2C, and that’s assuming this year is not an aberration.

FWIW I hope him and Johnson make me hatred of the ROR trade silly. I mean I’m fine with it this year, but I mean in the future

Over on Sabrespace whenever he scored a goal it was this:

And sometimes this:

But he's outgrown the giraffe thing. Now when he scores, it's this:

Hey, don't you mock me! I know the latest trends and what's hip and happening on the interwebs! Made a Harlem Shake video just weeks ago.

Also, did you guys notice, Rob Ray does this thing a lot where he says "Not a bad period by the Buffalo Sabres" almost regardless of whether it actually was a bad period or not.
It's quite funny.

Tage is what people were praying Taylor Pyatt would turn out to be. Tage is literally a one of a kind player. There has never been a forward as big as him scoring like this. He is going to be a 30-35 goal center and I love it.
