Three Americans and one Canadian will travel to Riga Latvia on June 4 and 5 to play in the Table Hockey World Championships. 20 countries will be represented from around the globe with the odds on favorites the Swedes being the team and the singles favorites to win it all. To learn more go to http://www.ustha.com/ or to http://www.trefik.cz/stiga/riga2005/. The game used is the Stiga Playoff table hockey game.

I have one in my basement that is about twice as large and doesn't sit on a table, but is in a cabinet like a table soccer game. It is freaking AMAZING. Unfortunately, me and my friends were playing while drunk and broke it, but I can call the company to re-order some parts.

Here are some pics:

Pretty cool, I used to play some with friends a long time ago, haven't played for several years. My Stiga is an older model (from the late 70s or early 80s I believe) where the left winger can't go behind the net, but it's still a fun game. :)

That looks like a "Carrrom" game. It is a less expensive version of the Super Chexx Bubbledome game found in many bars. There was a Bubble Boy nationwide tour sponsored by Budweiser a few years ago. The great thing about Stiga is it only costs about $80 US dollars and is small and convenient. There are leagues popping up everywhere and its a blast.

Hey Mikec772003,

Yes, I love table hockey especially the Super Chexx tables. I hope to be able to save enough money to buy one someday. I can play it for hours and hours. Great Fun!

A few years ago, I had the privilege of playing the World Champion of table hockey on a Stiga board - he was a Swedish guy who had a created a Jamacian team complete with real Rasta Locks & Twists! Cool! He gave me a 9-0 lead and the game went to 10. He scored 10 straight goals in about 7 minutes! My only chance came when I hit the post when the score was 9-7. I have never in my life seen such precision and accuracy. The guy did moves I never even imagined. It was a treat to watch though... :D

Yeah it is amazing to see what can be done at a world class level. We recently had our tournament here and three Sewedes came over and one Czech. Two of the Swedes were in the final and the crowd was in awe at their talent. I am about to find out in Riga in about two weeks at the WCh. I am lucky to have a neighbor who has played for thirty years and another guy, the #1 ranked American as close friends who have coached me since I got into table hockey a few years ago. Maybe we can meet up some time. This guy that is #1 ranked American is also a past Super Chexx National Champ. Recently he won a tournament here with 50 guys from around the US. We are trying to grow the USTHA and get some media coverage and sponsorships. http://www.ustha.com/

The Swedes have the best stiga table hockey players in the world i think.Don't they kick everybodies asses in this thing every year? The stiga game is a great game................it get's to be a real great competition when you have two players who can really play, one slip and the puck is in the net for the other guy.Very fun to play.

Yeah the Swedes are usually the best. But the Russians have some great new players some of who are only teenagers, and the Latvians and Czechs are coming on. There is a whole world table hockey thing happening and it won't be long before the Swedes aren't king anymore. Next January there'll be a huge event at the Paris in Las Vegas and an international tournament in Boston. In the team competition in Riga it should be Sweden, Russia, Finland, Norway, Czech Republic, Latvia and Norway as the top 6. The open competition is up for grabs and it wouldn't surprise me if teenager Roni Nuttonen from Finland or one of the Zakharov teens Alexey or Ivan from Russia takes the whole thing. They'll have to go thru Wallen and Osterman from Sweden as well as some other great Scandanavians who could have a great tournament and win it.

Yeah right. I have heard this all before. Try your great shots out in a tournament and go home with your tail between your legs LOL. You will score one goal with that shot and then it will be stopped and then what? Great players have an arsenal of many shots coming from many different angles and it will make your head spin. Here is the Russian web site that has an animated school to show all the shots. Go learn a few and let me know when you think you're ready. In about five years :)

My buddy has this one shot where it just can't be stopped when he gets his wrist action perfect. It's from his right winger and he just loads it up and puts it with tremendous velocity top corner left side of the net ...........i've tried everything but when he get's the right feel going on it there is to date no way to stop it!! anyone with any suggestions?,it's his big weapon and when he get's on a roll with it he's pretty much unstoppable. When he goes in a funk with it however my all around game and one timers from anywhere beat him 8 times out of ten.

That depends. If he goes left top always move the goalie over to cover but if he can go short side you'll have to cover that side with your left D, kind of a box defense. If he always shoots from the same position in the RW slot try to anticipate and pick off the shot with your left D. Watch where he shoots it from most of the time and be there. If he's shooting from anywhere up or down the slot you have a bigger problem trying to aniticpate where the shot is coming from and getting your left D in position to block it. But most players have tendencies and favorite spos to pass and shoot from so you have to study what he's foing. Good players will then slide it to the center and set up for a center breakaway and there are many center tricks that can be perfected. All the best players in Europe have great center breakaway shots if their wing to center combos are getting stopped. This is what makes it such a great game, there is so much strategy and thinking coupled with great reflexes and hand eye coordination. Check out our web site and hook up up with a league or some other players too. It's good to play more than one guy. http://www.ustha.com/

Thanks.I've tried some of the things you suggested..........he,like me,can slide it over quickly and bang it in with ease on a quick one timer from the centreman if you cheat too much covering the winger with a defenseman. It worked for awhile with him until he became too good with his centreman and then ......lights out!!

The angle he gets on that shot!! and it's lethal!! he calls it "the hully" and it's a major weapon trust me.I have been having the most sucess with stopping it lately by getting the right angle of my defensemens stick to tip the shot off course but sometimes he has so much tourque on the shot that it simply skips off the stick and still goes top corner. One good thing is that he can only really do it with perfection in one spot off the wing....he sets up pretty high and hugs the puck close to the boards and then bammo!! but he can't make that shot from anywhere on the wing.

The bad news is that even with intense concentration on my part to get my defensemens stick angled correctly and still be ready for the pass to centreman trick he has now started to take a play out of my book and use the defensemen as a one time option if he does'nt feel the centreman play will work.Tough sledding!! but that's what makes the game so much fun...........it's a blast!!

I'll check that league out too!!

as far as I know it's only possible to lift the puck like that with Stiga NHL, not Stiga International

but lifting the puck like this is a real pleasure, especially if the pass comes around the boards from behind the net.

I LOVE THIS GAME

if only I lived in a country where there are many table hockey tournaments like Russia or the Czech republic. I get to play only during the summer with my Czech buddies!
