If it wasn’t already, it’s clear now that MSL only trusts Montembeault to win. He seems done with Primeau. I’m not sure what HuGo thinks.

Furthermore, MSL is getting really annoyed with the whole backup goaltending issue. There was a very public spat with the press on the topic with a “Tabarnouche!” sprinkled in.

MSL is now in a fighting tooth and nail for each point mode. If you’re HuGo what do you do?

Need something because doubt Monty can go it alone rest of season.

Surprised by collapse of Primeau. He had a good college career and outstanding WJC. Last season he had a .909% save percentage with bad defense in front of him. Looked like he was maturing, then fell apart this season. It's odd.

Primeau should have been on waivers a long time ago. I think that’s what’s coming.
IMO he shouldn't have been. He was pretty good last year. They gave him a chance to show he could at least be a backup. He has had mostly bad games and the last straw should be the blowout game where he came in for part of the 3rd and was terrible. As Drury isn't Habs GM he wouldn't be waived before the break but likely on the 28th.

I answered "Get a goalie outside the organization? (by trade or otherwise)" but there needs to be no more than 1 year left on the contract and the price must be quite low. Just someone who is not having one of the 5 worst seasons ever.

[edit} Trying Connor Hughes would be ok too.

I'd prefer to keep the 3rd round pick. We can find a mediocre backup for less than that i'm pretty sure. It's not like Allen has been great with NJ he is 11-11-2 with a svaes % of 900 playing in front of a better team.

It was a joke !

They will find a team who wants to swap an experienced back-up/3rd string goalie for Primeau who could still be looked upon as young enough to be worth a gamble, for a team that doesn't have much 'future' in their pipeline.

How much rope do you give Hughes though? 5 games? Has Primeau been atrocious to the point where we can allow to give an unknown 5 games to prove themselves? That's 5 games we can't afford to gift to other teams

Yes, Primeau has been atrocious to the point where I would allow literally anyone else in the organization to play instead of him.

I would acquire Jack Campbell and all of his baggage and let him play instead.

I don't want to see Primeau in a Canadiens uniform ever again.

I don't care. I want one of Schaeffer/Misa/Hagens.

This team still misses gamebreaking talent.

Waivers for Primeau................he can go to Laval and get some games.

I think one of the goalies in Laval comes up...........not sure which.

Seems like the 1st step....problem is, if someone pick up Primeau, we'll need to make a move.
And then again, I'm sure KH and MSL would prefer not having to gamble on a goalie with 0 NHL game cause they can't even gamble on Primeau on a back to back games against Detroit.

A smart move would have been to send Primeau to Laval on a conditioning stint to play a couple of games. Not playing him at all was not the solution, not addressing his lack of playing time was and is not the solution. He is now done imo.

Is it too late for that though? I could see that being the last approach they take before pulling the plug.

Some names:
Matt Murray
Kahkonen
Schmidt
Driedger
Sogaard
Copley
Cooley (shut up the Logan fans)
I was looking at this last night.

Schmid and Copley are the only ones NHL talent wise I would look at. Murray just injury was too unreliable and back to looking at what we have. The others don't really move the needle.

Schmid is still young at 24 and a decent sized goalie and played some meaningful games for the Devils a few years back.
