If it wasn’t already, it’s clear now that MSL only trusts Montembeault to win. He seems done with Primeau. I’m not sure what HuGo thinks.

Furthermore, MSL is getting really annoyed with the whole backup goaltending issue. There was a very public spat with the press on the topic with a “Tabarnouche!” sprinkled in.

MSL is now in a fighting tooth and nail for each point mode. If you’re HuGo what do you do?

  • Primeau is a perfectly fine backup goalie?
  • Play Montembeault forever?

I was actually looking at that yesterday. Not many goalies available at the moment but this needs to be sorted out ASAP. Reminds of 18-19 season where we dressed Price every game down the stretch

Connor Hughes would be a perfectly acceptable backup for the rest of the season, if they feel like they have to make a decision on Primeau. He has plenty of pro experience.
How much rope do you give Hughes though? 5 games? Has Primeau been atrocious to the point where we can allow to give an unknown 5 games to prove themselves? That's 5 games we can't afford to gift to other teams

Mrazek would be a decent backup. His caphit sucks, but we could send Primeau and another contract over to CHI. Two year contract would allow Dobes to pickle in the AHL. I don't see who else would be available.

I don't believe in having "backups" anymore. I believe in having a 1a and 1b so they can share the load and if one falters, the other one can take over. It also creates an internal competition. This league has proven time and time again that you need 2 good goalies.
We likely have that good goalie im Dobes, but we need someone as a 2 year bandaid while we wait for him. Having 2 good goalies is ideal, but it isnt so easy to obtain.

They probably try Hughes before Dobes, Vinny’s brother is his agent and his deal expires this year
It's better for Dobes to be getting starter minutes in the AHL instead of warming the bench most games behind Monty at this point in his development, anyway. Either getting a real backup from the outside, or swapping Hughes and Primeau on a trial basis, would be an okay path.

Dobes and Mailloux need time to pickle in the AHL.

Primeau is the perfect tank commander.
Agreed but you still gotta try somebody else or else we really look like a clownshow , if culture is what they are going for here you can't leave Sam out to dry.

For me it's Hughes or going outside the organisation

If the team looks good, young players develop and lose because of Primeau and they end up drafting top 3 and grabbing one of Schaeffer, Hagens or Misa because of it, this is the perfect situation to me.

Bad goaltending is what we want.

??

We're not making the playoffs by beating weak teams. It's a developing team and they sure as hell need to still offer space and time to tryout players.

SJ has 3 goalies, with the two vets Vancek, Georgiev being UFA.
Philly has 3 goalies, the two Russians they no doubt want to keep, and Ersson who is signed for this year and next and was pretty decent last year.

What pro experience are you talking about? He played most of his career in Swiss A league. 0 NHL experience. He has the potential to be worst than Primeau.

Pro hockey experience, as in the Swiss league is a pro league with pro hockey players in it ;) He's been a pro for quite a few years now.
