I know you're going to come at me on this, but this is a very telling statistic. Think of the softest player on your team. Think of how small they are and how often they get knocked on their ass.
This has to be an indicator for a coach/scout/GM as to how well a player will perform in:
1. important games near the end of the season
2. overtime
3. clutch situations like holding a lead or trying to tie a game
4. playoffs
TOA is the perfect indicator of how well a player performs in key situations and key games. If you see your player constantly knocked to the ice, then they have almost no business being in the National Hockey League.
