This guy would have more positive things to say about Nieto if someone asked him…it’s such a passive aggressive answer lol…awful

What did you want make of Malkin tonight, and also in recent weeks? It looked like he had a lot of jump, but couldn’t find a goal. “I think Geno, he's a talent. He's a talent. He has the ability to make plays. He has the ability to drive offense. He's had some looks. We have that breakaway right away, the puck got away from him. The ice wasn't very good, I know they had a basketball game earlier in the day (Princeton versus Rutgers), that might’ve had something to do with it. I thought both sides had some looks for opportunities that the puck just didn't bounce over sticks. (Jack) Hughes had a breakaway, that happened to him on their side. But I think G, he has the ability to help us create offense. I think for me, the biggest thing with G is just trying to bring more honesty in his game, and making sure that he stays underneath the puck at the right times as he recognizes when he has to play defense. He puts so much pressure on himself to produce offensively, sometimes, he neglects the defensive side. So, that's the conversation that we have with him a lot. But listen, he's a good player. He's making plays for us.”

Didn’t watch.

Expected a trash effort and a loss.
Wasn't a trash effort. Pens fought pretty valiantly tbh. If the puck doesn't bounce on Malkin early and if Sid buries the good chance he had, maybe a different game.

The Devils are just a lot better and the Pickering getting hurt really put pressure on their d.

This is one of those games where if one just looked at the box score they'd think it a trash effort but it really wasn't.

Yeah, it’s actually sadder than a trash effort lol…they just aren’t very good and Sid and Geno are looking their age and no one else can score goals

Sid just had 4 points the other night and Geno looked pretty good tonight.

I doubt they make the playoffs because Ottawa and NYR are better but they're playing pretty solid lately. We'll see how it goes the rest of the way or if this is just a blip of decent play that bad teams sometimes do.

I'm pretty hesitant to buy into Ottawa's stock so quickly. This stretch has largely been carried by Ullmark playing out of his mind.
~Two weeks ago they were 2 games under .500.
I still see a serious scoring issue with Boston, but they can grab a playoff berth through solid structure I guess.
It's the Rangers who are the most well-rounded and will pick it up, imo. They have to be the most underperforming team in the league, relative to roster strength. Shesterkin can get hot at any time.

It's a long season. Around 50 games left. Ample time for random drops and surges.

Where's that mod guy who came in so fast when we beat up a bad Preds team? :naughty: I don't believe I've seen them before.

Anyhow, this team is just going to do well enough against non-playoff bound teams to make them forget that they just can't seem to win games against teams in our division. I'm fine with the loss, but it just goes to show how much those victories against largely bad teams (LA being a notable exception for example) camouflage the real issues with the team and system that are on full display against competant opponents.

The Pens played better than expected. Then again, I expected nothing.

Turns out we can play half-decent defense.... at the expense of offense. The shot clock was somewhat misleading but still. And once again the PP was brutal against an agressive PK. The teams that play more often against Sullivan and his vaunted system usually do better against it than Western teams which meet the Penguins twice a year, what does that tell you?

Also, that third line is so vanilla that I racked my brain for like two minutes to remember who third guy on it was. Turns out it was Phil "53rd winger who looks good with Geno for a handful of games before turning into pumpkin" Tomassino. My bad, Phil.

Which is going to take time. In 2015 teams played different styles. Now everyone is looking for speed. Just going to have to draft and develop it.
We're not slow, not anymore, we're just not video game fast like a handful of teams. COL, EDM and NJ for example. But we've been playing much quicker this season. Against COL and NJ we played them pretty close until the 3rd. They have younger legs and are better teams no question! But our team speed relative to most of the league is fine. It's just not elite.

We just traded a pretty fast prospect in Yager for a much slower player lol
So, would you go back and undo that trade?

I wouldn't say Yager is fast. I'd say he has average NHL speed.

I know Brunicke has wheels. Pieniemi also or however you spell it.

Mentally and physically slow dudes
Koltsov had speed but he had no hands. Sure you wanna have good NHL speed, but that's just one of many qualities you have to have to make it in the NHL. And some guys can navigate around it with other attributes.

Need a balance

We generally just lack that scoring/killer instinct/clutch talent that you really need. It's hard to find, but we've just been losing that element a bit every year for the last 7 years at a minimum

Let's be honest, NONE of the guys we have in the system with the possible exception of the goalie prospects are likely '' future core'' guys. Pickering, Brunicke and McGroarty MIGHT come close. What we have here are some potentially very solid complimentary pieces. The only way to get very high end ''core'' talent is to luck into it like MIN did with Kaprizov or LA back in the day getting Robitaille in a late round. We drafted Jake and Letang in the 3rd round. Otherwise you have to plummet down the standings and get a top five or six pick.
