Ryan Leonard is gonna be a heck of a player in Washington and maybe even a future captain here.

… but early on anyone else noticing he’s doing stuff that just doesn’t work in the NHL? He tries to throw pucks in-between defenders and go around them and fancy stuff like that which can work in NCAA/Amateur tournaments where the game is slower, but the NHL is just different.

Maybe the game is still pretty fast for him and once he gets situated those plays will be better/smarter.

Agreed but he will adapt pretty quickly the more games he gets under his belt I think.

The play he just made worked and then Mangi just doesn't throw it right back for the breakaway.

Its just bad habits from playing in a league where he was the best player on the ice every game. I still wish they'd swap him and Raddysh, because I think physically he's ready and stylistically he'd fit with that simpler grit and grime line more then Eller and Mangi right now.

But yeah, its why I pumped the breaks so much. He needs time to adjust, he's still watching the play instead of just reacting and he's still a bit arrogant in the way he plays. Both things that just take some time to break out of, probably even harder when you just played an entire season one way and then are asked to change over night.

It doesn’t work for now, but I think he’ll be able to refine his tools and pull off the moves eventually. We have to keep in mind that he’s younger than almost everyone he’s facing.
