Getting this out now because I plan on being glued to a very good Finland vs Sweden match.
Before the tourney I said all the Czechs care about is winning a quarter and getting to final 4. Pool play went well and we made the quarters!
Switzerland showed up with little fanfare, few drafted players and then beat the Czechs and, I think, Swedes in exhibition. Sure, exhibition is meaningless. Then they beat the Finn's, Slovaks and Latvians. They have 1 loss in Canada no matter how you look at it. I have no idea how you win 3 matches and finish 4th in your group. Very bad luck! Czechs won 3 and were first. So it's a battle of 3x winners!
In no way is this an easy out. If you asked the Swiss before the tournament who they'd like to play from the Canada group I'm sure they'd say the Czechs. So we both have what we want in an ideal matchup for both of us.
Last time we played, I think, was 2018 and it was 2-1 in OT.
I expect the Czechs to set the pace and control the shot clock and I expect the Swiss to defend and make it impossible to score. The odd counter attack or PP opportunity is their best chance at getting a lead.
Czechs need to score first and get the Swiss to open up
Swiss need to trust their coach and systems and be patient.
Good luck to both. I think it'll be a close game and hope the Czechs can squeeze out a victory.
